So much H1B chatter here and with H1B almost impossible to get I am surprised not more companies and employees are trying for O-1 visa and that there isn’t more talk about this here. No quota and the requirements are actually pretty loose. Have you considered O-1?
O-1 means you have to actually be really talented, doesn’t it?
You are not talented? I am in the process and I am by no means a genius. Just a few awards, some media around my work and strong international reference letters. That was pretty much all that was needed for a FANG to try this. Doesn’t seem that hard.
Well the description for the visa says it “is for the individual who possesses extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics, or who has a demonstrated record of extraordinary achievement in the motion picture or television industry and has been recognized nationally or internationally for those achievements.” The majority of people don’t receive these kind of awards and media around their work. So the O-1 visa should naturally be reserved for those who are extremely talented and deserve it. Unless there is O-1 abuse in the same way there is H1B abuse?
I came here on an O1 and used the same documentation to get an EB1 6 months later.
What level were you hired?
L4
Please add the option to the poll - I am not the US president's porn star bitch.
?
I didn’t understand O-1 so I selected didn’t get it
OP how can you brag it’s so easy when you didn’t get approved yet
This has nothing to do with bragging. Just trying to help here... I didn’t say it’s easy, just that it’s easier than people think.
Can h1b transfer and o1 application happen together, whichever is approved first and use whichever ones? Just wonder suppose o1 is used to start working in the new employer, h1b is permanently lost?
Drawback of o1 is it’s only valid for 3 year then extend in a 1 year incremental Afterwards
Also spouses on O3 cannot work
This is a good question- I see many resorting to o-1 and lawyers know how to get it , it’s easy to fake “extraordinary” ability
Not really “fake” but more about how to define “extraordinary”.
It’s a checklist of 10 items. If you have 3 or more and you can prove them you get approved, if you don’t you get rejected. The list of 10 items and the fact that you need 3 or more is listed clearly in the O-1 web page.
O1 for phDs easier ?
Yes easier - both O1 and EB1A/B are highly suited for PhDs
You guys who picked “didn’t get it”. Did you apply and were rejected or did your employer not agree to try and spend the $$$ on lawyer?
