Why Canada allows so many immigrants when there are no jobs?

There is a really good answer to this question which explains very well. This explains the situation why people are reluctant to go to Canada for tech jobs. Original Link: https://www.quora.com/Why-does-Canada-allow-350-000-immigrants-every-year-when-there-are-no-jobs-there-for-immigrants/answer/Peter-Pohlmann Original Answer by Peter Pohlmann: Well there are jobs, just low level jobs. The trick here is to let highly educated immigrants in and not to accept their credentials. That will serve as a cheap workforce for at least 3 or more years. An Engineer will not be able to work in his field of expertise because his credentials are not accepted. It will take at least 1 or 2 years to get his credentials upgraded. Most people do not have the money to support their family for that long without income and added expenses for training programs. Sooner or later that engineer will work in some shit job for a shit salary, at least some years. Next he will hear things like “you have no Canadian work experience in your field of expertise” or something like “You are overqualified”. So everyone of the immigrants has to rent an Apartment, buy furniture , a car etc. That pumps a lot of money in the economy too. Immigration is a huge money maker for Canada as well as for other countries. These days every country is looking for a cheap workforce. Stories like there are no skilled trade jobs or no engineers etc are simply not true. Every year each university is putting enough graduates in the market, the problem is just that the companies don't want to pay proper wages. They want highly educated workers that work for peanuts.

Btw this is the future of USA if S386 passes. You’ll have to compete with people who are ok working for $10/h

I’m an American that supports open borders. I can outcompete anyone

As an immigrant to Canada, this is so true. This is also why I moved to the US, because at least America puts on a better veneer that it's a land of opportunity

Exactly same sitch for me. It f-cking bothers me when I was interviewing and getting turned down for jobs in Canada and yet news outlets constantly talk about how there's not enough tech talent in Canada. Then I try my luck in the US and I quickly get a job where my annual promo, raises, stock awards is pretty much the equivalent CAD salary those Canadian companies that rejected me were willing to pay. They want to hire people not qualified enough to demand higher wages and are willing to work for peanuts. F-ck them. Never looking back.

I don't think comparison done in proper way.Canada is country with limited human resources. Immigration was very minimal till last 5-10 years ago. I do see lot of good jobs in Canada with good Base pay. It will be less than USA because of shortage of talent. But now as immigration grows ,high paying jobs started coming in to Canada. I see that change. I know at least 10 people who earns more than 150k base. Any highly skilled immigrants with proper education and skillset is not without a good job. You won't find any Immigrant with Canadian education is not a without a job.

So true. I am based in Vancouver and just in the last year, my office has increased headcount by at least a 20%. And Amazon is opening an office as well. So is Apple. Vancouver may just become the third tech capital in North America after Bay area and Seattle.

Why are you so bothered about it?

Scaling down is an option. Man power is biggest asset Canada can have. Canada needs to make use of Human Resources they can become largest economic power with that asset.

I started looking for job 2 months back...and I had 5 organization interviews loop. So maybe depend on skill set, education, location as well.
