Why It’s next to impossible to find a decent barbershop in US.

Coming from India I see that here hair cuts are expensive and terrible. Even a $50 haircut is like $1 haircut back in India. Once you are in US you have to live with a bad haircut after that.

Don't worry. You'll quickly lose all that hair to stress and long hours and problem solved.

Think of all the money you'll save :-)

You have to go to an Americana type place. Guys with tattoos, hot rods, etc. these guys love what they do, and always do a great job (if the place has good reviews). Typically $15.

You have been to India.. i have lived there for 23 years.. any day they are good and less expensive.. here it is expensive and terrible.. i am fine with paying more here as standards of living here is on much higher side but look at the quality. Go to any 30-40 bucks place here they just know 3-4 regular cuts

Couldn't agree more. Barbers here have no skill but are paid decently. They're incredibly skilled in India, but paid shit. I've heard the same about China as well

The app “Cuts” was my savior. You can view reviews and see haircut pictures, which allows you to differentiate the good from the bad.
Like you I struggled to find a good barber whenever I change cities

I’m from here and agree that’s it’s difficult to find a good barber for a decent price. I’ve tried many and paid lots of money for a terrible haircut.

And I’m saying that the labor market here isn’t the same price as in India. Not an apples to apples comparison

Ok so what price here will give me great haircut?

    • Salesforce glang
The economics here for stylist skill aren’t efficient so it’s more about finding the barber that you like. Also it will be a matter of you being able to communicate what you want precisely.

I am not looking for a cheap one. But a good one for that price. If you have read my post correctly what I am saying is a $50 haircut hai is a very average one. May be you not been to India so you have nothing to compare one or you found some really good ones in that case please mention

I have a great barber, charges $25. Just make sure you find someone experienced, or who is apprenticing at a bigger shop. Ask your coworkers who have good haircuts. You don't want someone who opened up their own shop fresh out of barber school charging $40 a hair cut. We've got a couple around here and they're just the worst

I totally agree. Others around me spends average $100 for the job can be done in $20. I can't ever imagine myself to spend that much and risk if I may not have hair cut as I want. 😮
I guess either people get more heads in India to be expert or they have this skill from their ancestors.
It's same with body massage, and other spa.😯

I enjoy my local 18|8 shop. Been seeing the same stylist for a few years. Every month I get a cut and wax (ears, nose, brows). It’s not cheap though.

Check Yelp for men's haircut. There should be some inexpensive places (less than $20) with good reviews.

But you can't do a straight conversion from USD to INR when trying to compare. Think about it this way: $15 can buy you a decent meal or a haircut in the US. INR 100 can do the same.
