Why are men wearing dressing shirt without wifebeater?

May 12 31 Comments

As a female it looks extremely annoying that men would wear dressing shirts with top two buttons open and no wifebeater underneath. There body hairs look gross. Why don't they cover up?

Pretty sure this poster wouldn’t describe herself as a feminist. Feminists don’t care as long as we’re both held to the same standards (as in, I’m going to tell those nylons to fuck off and you can tell your tie to do the same if you’d like).

There are plenty of self describing feminists who don't hold everyone to the same standards.

Yes, women definitely use the term "wifebeater."

Named after the wife beater in A Streetcar Named Desire.

Contemporarily, perhaps. But it originated from the Middle Ages, waif beater, when knights had lost most of their armor and were abandoned by their army.

Since you mentioned it looks gross, does the complaint apply only to ugly guys?
What if the guy doesn't have chest hairs? Do hot ones get a pass?

It's far better than women who wear cleavage tops.
Oh man it's hard to sit in meetings before a woman with cleavage tops.

Hot take: nobody cares about your opinion and wife beater undershirts are pointless and look awful.

Wow! I bet you haven’t been outside the US. Personally. I don’t care how someone else dresses.

I was thinking she must not be from the US with an opinion like that.

Precisely. European metros NEVER show the white undershirt. Major faux pas.

Also, nobody that is from the US calls it a dressing shirt.

I forgo the dress shirt and Rock the beater outright. It looks good with my gold chain and ketchup stain from last night's dinner.

      wife beater

      1. Men's close fitting, ribbed, sleeveless white cotton undershirt most commonly used before T-shirts came into vogue as undergarments. It is named wife beater after Marlon Brando'scharacter, Stanley Kowalski, who wore one during much of the movie version of Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire." Stanley proved to be a sloppy, drunken, ill-tempered brute who beat his wife.
