Why are you still against gun control?

If you are a supporter of gun rights, convince me guns are not causing more harm than good. I want my kids to be safe in school. The amount of gun violence, especially in schools, is alarming and something that only happens here in the US. This is not the 19th century and the relevance of the second amendment is questionable. I am not against the right to bear arms, though, I think it’s pretty clear we need better laws and more restrictions.

Know what kills way more people than guns? Obesity. People are dropping dead left and right because they’re eating too much. And I have to pay for their healthcare through my tax dollars. I know people in this country are obsessed with “freedom,” but at some point, enough is enough. We need to microchip everyone at birth and create a registry at the federal level to record how many calories everyone is eating. No eating anything unless you take a picture of it with your phone first and let a government bureaucrat estimate the calories and record it on your profile. We should take a page out of Singapore’s book and set up a mandatory death penalty for anyone smuggling French fries into the country.

The whataboutism in this one is strong

Google gsu Feb 14, 2018

We need guns to protect ourselves against the zombie apocalipse.

Oath FE$$ Feb 14, 2018

The fact is, majority of people are for stricter gun control. The reason we don’t get it is because of NRA.

Microsoft Market Feb 14, 2018

This is a common, but ill informed myth. Nobody wants psychos to have weapons. I don't believe that the majority want more strict gun control though.

Microsoft Market Feb 14, 2018

You can never get rid of all guns. If you could then additional laws may help. Since you can't get rid of them all, do you think the criminals are going to turn theirs in because they're all of the sudden illegal? Killing people is already against the law and criminals don't care.

Oath FE$$ Feb 14, 2018

Not all mass shooters are criminals. Many school shooters acquired them legally straight from their parents gun safe.

Adobe Ywoq25 OP Feb 14, 2018

I don’t have the exact numbers and a simple search didn’t give me any, but there are reports which say that most of the shootings are not by criminals. Mental health patients from young kids to 85 year old grannies have access to guns, kids accidentally shoot at their parents, parents accidentally pull the trigger at their kids- this is madness!!

Microsoft seemsfastr Feb 14, 2018

Laws and restrictions do not stop people who are hellbent on killing others

Oath FE$$ Feb 14, 2018

True, but you can definitely reduce the number of casualties

Adobe Ywoq25 OP Feb 14, 2018

^ this. It should not be this easy for a young person to get hold of a gun. Or ( as in other cases) for someone to accrue assault weapons without it raising a red flag

Apple procto Feb 14, 2018

Keep in mind that 911 is a “best effort” system. You cannot hold the police accountable for not protecting you unless they are negligent. While you don’t need a gun most of the time, there may come a situation where you do (Eg: stalker). As the saying goes, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Adobe Ywoq25 OP Feb 14, 2018

There has been 7 school shootings just this year. We definitely need to make it harder for a young person to get hold of a gun

Amazon G0aL Feb 15, 2018

This argument is flawed because you don’t carry your gun with you all the time. You cannot protect yourself with a gun in almost all the situations where mass shootings happen. You just are trying to win argument for your ego sake. Put that aside and think critically what real value they add to us as human beings.

Amazon G0aL Feb 14, 2018

I had started a similar thread few weeks ago; I tried to argue with all gun lovers. They really don’t have any legitimate reason for free and easy gun access while living in cities and sub-urban areas but they just need it for the sake of “feeling they have freedom”. There will be no impact on their lives if guns are banned or allowed on use case basis, but their feel it’s not democratic. Bottom line is everyone has their own beliefs and it’s very hard to convince people and ask them to change. The way for gun control would be through 60% “Democratic” majority in the House and senate and major lobbying against it.

Google Noogler69 Feb 14, 2018

What about people who don’t live in cities and suburban areas?

Amazon G0aL Feb 14, 2018

If you are living in back country or have valid reason; people should be able to get it after vetting and other procedures. I don’t want to go into the specifics of how it exactly it will be implemented but more of high level tenets should be like this.

Amazon Gucci Gang Feb 14, 2018

Today in America 17 people died at a high school so that some of you can continue to shoot deer or pretend you’ll be able to fight off the hypothetical US military “invasion”. Edited to add: I’m actually not against handguns for protection. Once again the AR-15 and similar rifles are the problem here.

Zappos eYQO65 Feb 14, 2018

Google Noogler69 Feb 15, 2018

What’s the big difference in lethality between an AR-15 and a handgun? They both hold multiple rounds in a magazine and fire a bullet every time you pull the trigger.

Cisco bamboozled Feb 14, 2018

Because some people have vested financial interest in the guns business. Imagine the US govt blocking MacBook pro because it displays porn. The antagonist feeling you and I would get at the MacBook ban is the same gun nuts feel about gun bans. They're deeply entrenched in it. But I cannot imagine valuing a MacBook pro over my kids. So I can't imagine guns over my kids. So I oppose guns. The rest of the civilized world is fine without guns. Either we are incapable of loving our kids or we're uncivilized. God knows what's up with gun toters

(1) Who will I give up my gun to? Trump's army? The police? (2) Black people who are shot by police and commit 90% of crimes will not give up their guns. What is your plan to force them?

Oath FE$$ Feb 14, 2018

1) Government buy back program. I’m sure they’ll have a place in our huge military. 2) Government buy back program. Also, you shoot them, like how you were planning even when they were unarmed. I thought white people dont need reasons to shoot black people

Facebook ofgvrwpdh Feb 14, 2018

1) Who is the commander in chief of our government? Why would I give hitler my guns for any amount of money? 2) Only the ones who break into my house, and it's happened twice in my lifetime.
