Why chinese are not considered minorities in western countries?

While indeed in terms of quantity they are.

And while apparently you cannot say anything bad even it’s true to other monorities, it’s competely ok even politically correct to spit any hateful, discriminative words to chinese.

In tech? There aren't enough of them to do that.

    They’re not?

Yes there’s racism and bigotry against Asians in general and Chinese more specifically. There’s also racism or bigotry against other ethnic groups... it’s not zero-sum.

Of course no one should be harassed. I doubt any conservative cares if someone identifies as a banyan tree or as a polar bear. The problem is when I'm expected to go along with someone else's delusion.

I knew a dude who after 2 years of me working at that place suddenly decided he was a lady and wanted to be addressed as such. I don't deny his humanity but why should I be expected to go along with his delusion. Is it because of his feelings? What about the facts that are more important to me?

It’s not a delusion to what to be treated as a different gender. It’s delusional to believe trans people don’t know what sex their body is. By definition Trans people know what gender they were assigned or what sex they were born as... they consciously want to be treated and live as another gender.

So of course some conservatives feel threatened, otherwise they wouldn’t give a shit what pronouns people use or say that someone’s choice is automatically a mental issue?

It's funny how people who are all about individual freedom balk at the idea that somebody could decide their own name, gender, and pronouns.

Yeah, you can also "decide" not to respect trans people but then it just makes you a jerk.

Feel threatened? The thinking that you are scared if you don't agree with someone's very malleable view of the truth means you're scared of them is truly mind boggling. Maybe liberals are just normalophobic.

Chinese are considered minorities. They are not considered “underrepresented minorities” in tech, and SJWs don’t care about them because they are doing fine.

Because they are doing fine, it’s also not as extremely politically incorrect to say negative things. Just like it’s slightly more politically correct to say things about white people. Political correctness tries to “protect downtrodden groups”.

On average/median. The vast majority of white Americans are quite poor in the US too.

The data showing that Asian Americans are doing so well is misleading. They leave out that the avg AsAm household has more members so the fact that avg household income doesn't mean what ppl assume it to mean. There are lots of AsAm who are struggling to get by.

    • Airbnb burbuddy
Sure there are. There are more white Americans that are struggling to get by though. Take a drive outside of the cities and you’ll find almost exclusively poor whites in rural areas.

The point isn’t that all or most Chinese are doing well, it’s that the median/average is better than the median/average for the minority groups that liberals focus on.
      Jul 26
    • New anonabk
That's the assumption but I don't think it's necessarily true is my point.

There is a research that Asian Americans (2nd generation) are doing very similar to white Americans. The difference comes from 1st generations who work tirelessly for their kids (not necessarily good thing). However,
the media and many people just mix them all together. That is often not good for second generation that is not as good at math for example.

Asian immigrants are two different groups - one who came because they didn’t have much in their home, another group who came because they are really good at home and wanted more. Not many middle group. Indian immigrants are skewed to the latter. Koreans are skewed to the first.

Asian Americans tend to make much more than caucasion Americans, so they aren't seen as marginalized in the same way that many other races are. In the northeast there have been some issues with Chinese and Asian families as they tend to get into the beat public schools, which is limiting the seats for black and hispanic students in those schools. Asian students twnd to do very well in school, partly because their parents stress how important it is. As cities like NY are trying to find a way to make the schools more diverse, it means that many Asian students may be left out of the high performing schools, even if they did the work to get in.... Which has several Asian groups upset and fighting back.

Racism isn't only for specific races, if you rely on stereotypes to judge any race, or just hate an entire race, it's racsim. It doesn't matter if they are marginalized or not. Whites, Asians, and Indians can be victims of racism, but we aren't victims of Systemic Racism, which is a different concept altogether.

Edit: this was in response to a comment asking about "races that were lazy or criminal" but it looks like that comment has been deleted.

Being a victim of systemic racism doesn't automatically mean you are a good person... You can be a victim of racism and still be a criminal or a bad person.

Racism is believing things like "some races aren't hard working." That has nothing to do with race, that's a cultural thing. One of my closest friends is Puerto Rican, and he's one of the hardest working ans most enterprising people that I know... And he complains that many of his cousins have fallen into the culture of just not working and collecting benefits... Some of them are the 3rd generation of not working. That has nothing to do with their race, they made personal choices and are part of a culture that doesn't value work.

Just about every race and culture have been slaves at some point, and every race and culture has had it's dark periods... My mother was a refugee from Northern Ireland, where the English enslaved our people for 500 years, and tried to eliminate our language and culture, for example. We grew up poor, but my parents pushed us to work hard, but there is still a poor Irish culture in the US. My brother is in his 5th round of rehab, my sister has been Deported from the UK several times and has no job, my cousins/relatives are either into drugs/weapons trade, are collecting benefits, or are in prison. I (somehow) turned out pretty well... But there's nothing about the Irish race that makes us do that, it's a cultural thing, and many people just fall into laziness and blaming others for their issues. You'll find this with every race/culture... There will be those who are lazy and just want to take, and those who work and make something of themselves.

You are using Race and Culture separately. Theoretically you are right but practically both of those have strong relation that’s why when Someone sees (for ex, May not be true) all puerto rican people don’t study as hard, they don’t distinguish between race and culture, and use race to associate hard work(or lack of it )

Yep. The generalizations that Americans have about successful Asians mostly do not apply to SE Asians for example, but Americans just put them into the meaningless “Asian” bucket and say there’s no problem

The democrats defines “minorities” using tax revenues. So even though Latino is the largest ethnicity in CA, they are still a minority.
    Jul 26 1
    • TJX / IT tcxs
This is not true, it has nothing to do with tax revenue...

While some cities and towns are not majority Caucasian, the US as a whole is.

There really is only one way for Asians to get attention. Currently Asians are safely in democrats territory so no attention is given to them. Start voting republican and get them to work for your vote.

Old asians/immigrants do vote Republican. Young Asian men skew liberal but some are conservatives. 99% of young Asian women are liberal.

Theres just not enough asians to make a difference in voting. Esp when they clump together in decided states like California.
