Why data science or anything complicated is a waste of time

Those things come and go. Just have a general swe resume, it shows you've been around and done a lot of things. Focusing on data science, ai, ml or anything narrow just means you're a new grad and haven't seen those things go out if fashion .

That goes more to show the lack of understanding regarding the nature of data among software junkies and failure to appreciate challenges of rigorous science due to their lack of relevant education along with narrow-mindedly obsessed ego w.r.t. a single craft above anything else

Statistics has existed for far longer than software
"Those things come and go" (really? using new grad as an insult is pretty ironic for the OP)

Edit: Just noticed the Albertsons troll is back on Blind. Welcome!

  • Agree 100%. Also same job can be called different names according to the latest trends. For example I see sql monkeys referred to as data scientists, data warehouse, data analyst, data managers etc. in several companies where all they are doing is select * or maybe use a tool.

Mixing data science with “anything complicated” is your error.

Stats skills are worth less than computer science skills. Anyone not living under a rock knows this.

There are plenty of “complicated” skills in software development that command significant salary premiums.

Not sustainably besides core enterprise skills. Ds is being worked into existing platforms like azure, and not the other way around. Point is, go with what is mainstream, not with what is new.

Lol somebody who doesn’t have patience to understand science discipline. If you are good in data science you will always be valued no matter what the trend is. Title varies just to attract talent these skills were previous in demand as well and will be in future too.

    Just beware if such trolls.

Maybe back in the day when it was all done by hand stats skills meant something.

Now it's all just punching numbers into calculators/Excel/whatever meme number crunching program is hot right now like glorified data entry.
