Why do Amazon engineers work there if their work culture is so bad?

40 hours / week is not terrible WLB. Vesting schedule is every 6 months. 75% of Amazon oncall get less than 2 sev 2 in a week. It is true that 20-25% of Amazon is brutal which gets all the bad name, but rest of the Amazon is doing OK. It is really easy to change teams in case you accidentally land into any such team. It is REALLY not as terrible as the perception. It is a fairly successful company. I am sure it is not as KOOL as Google and Facebook and maybe like other more chillax start up. But it is a company where people with family, kids, a life goes to work, be serious about, go home and live their life. It is by no mean brutal and dehumanizing place like people rumored about here. Anyone who thinks we work in a terrible environment is just delusional. It’s not the coolest company in the world but it is giving many people opportunities otherwise cannot have too. Please don’t demonize it.
