Why do amazon recruiters anyways ghost?

An Amazon recruiter messaged saying they have a hiring event and asked whether I would be interested. I said I was interested(coz well I never get noticed by their recruiters even after applying 10 times or so in 6 months). Then he immediately sends an email asking me if I am willing to take an online assessment after 3 weeks. He kept on mentioning how the coding problems wouldn't be boring and stuff and yet lol 😂 pointed to leetcode styled problems as part of preparation materials . Nonetheless I said I was interested again since I usually never get this far with any company (this is indeed the farthest that I ever got, of course I have only applied to 100 or so companies and of course there is the whole f1 opt visa thing too, not to mention I have only 1 year experience in the industry ).either way that day long passed about 2 weeks ago, I never got a coding test. I messaged him a couple of times but no response. All my time has now gone to waste since I did some 150 odd useless leetcode and 10 to 15 pramp interview stuff. The thing is that this was the third amazon recruiter who said that I might be a good fit and yet ghosted in last 6 months. Why does Amazon only do this? Other companies are better, at least they don't give me false hope.

You’re wrong if you think your preparation went to waste just because a recruiter ghosted you. There are other companies out there and that preparation will sure be helpful.

Amazon is known to spam. Just be glad you didn't get ghosted further down the pipeline.

There are tons of openings in amazon. 1. If you have any friends or co-workers, ask them to refer you. You will be guaranteed interview. 2. Reach out to hiring managers. There are lot of HMs listed as “I’m Hiring”. reach them.

^ Agree with number 2. For number 1, I know for a fact from several cases that you are not guaranteed an interview with a referral at Amazon, although it works at other companies.

Agreed 🙌

150, unless they felt really easy keep going. If anything, the practice could help for another company as well.

Agreed 150 seems to be the bare minimum these days anyway. Leetcode a day keeps unemployment away.

These hiring events are cattle calls. Recruiters blast out messages to hundreds of candidates apiece and feed them into the online assessment grinder, which costs the company next to nothing to do (we're doing this on SDE2s now--I'm a trained OA code reviewer and am getting blasted with manual reviews on up to 3-4 candidates per week right now). They end up ghosting people because they're juggling more candidates than they can possibly handle. You just fell through the cracks. That said, this is not the way to join the company: the cattle call events are feeding burner SDEs into shitty teams with horrible attrition and low hiring bars--mostly ops gulags and new initiative death marches. These teams are mostly used to offer up sacrifices for the annual LE culling and handle all of the scut work that comes with being a massive company with decades of legacy code and tech debt. Instead, get a referral for a specific team that you have insider knowledge on from somebody you like and trust--this is how I came in, which landed me on a fantastic team (I've been here over 4 years), and I wouldn't have done it any other way. If you can't, don't bother joining Amazon at all. Trust me on this.

That is a sound advice. But mind if I ask you how did you find a referral in the first place? Thanks

I had a close friend on the team I ended up joining--so, luck.

Happened to me multiple times, sometimes even from hiring managers. I still get a couple messages from Amazon each month but I stopped replying.
