Noticed a pattern throughout my career: senior positions are filled with so many obnoxious people who lack basic politeness, routinely run late to meetings, dont keep their word, etc. Yet, these types of traits rarely get you far early in your career... which kinda makes sense - you want hard charging types who dont give a F to run things and polite worker bees who get the job done. But my question is how did the hard charging, often obnoxious types get promoted in the first place? How do they continue to get support from thr organization if they behave in a way that makes people not want to work with them?
Because they are obnoxious but good at sucking the ass. This kind of people normally have big mouth and good sucking ass skills. That’s all you need when you want to go higher up.
There are so many potential reasons for this but if I'm going to make a reasonable guess; the organization has a poor review and promotion process, these people are better at managing their careers and they are doing something that their managers like. I also find many times that people who complain about this topic are both envious of their peers success and frustrated that they aren't getting promoted themselves. Not saying it's the case with you but a pattern I've seen as well.
Nice guys finish last. Trump is an ass. Look where he is today.
It also helps to be born wealthy. The Hilton kids have successful businesses as well because they had unlimited starting capital
Businesses tend to promote those who conform. Business value is intangible at larger companies. So its better to be loud and visible.
Most people are afraid of making the wrong decision. These are the polite people. These hard charging types will feel free to take huge responsibility for things they don’t understand and pretend to know everything. It’s all bullshit. You could call it confidence. There is another skill which you just have as well and that is knowing how to make people always agree with you. These people say things like “does that make sense?”.
Haha, spot on. When i see "does that make sense", i read it as basically "deal with it, and also fk you" lol
I got a good nugget for you sir/ma’am. So when someone is trying to force a bad decision you say “this is a bigger discussion to be had offline” then you never speak of it again. Lol
It’s cuz you work at Visa.

More senior you become, you have little patience for BS. You value your own time more, focus on 1 or 2 very important things. It might come across obnoxious. It’s basically different priorities than most.
I believe a lot them view themselves as leaders and always are scheming and networking for those positions. That is why there are so many bad managers. The best wasn't promoted - - the ones who push and shove to the front of the line are.
