Why do recruiters leave people on read?

Cold emailed some recruiters asking about new grad roles, and 4 (edit: now 20) of them opened their emails in the last hour but didn’t respond. Same thing happens on LinkedIn as well. Isn’t it basically their job to email/respond to candidates? Recruiters are so incompetent sometimes. They have the easiest jobs in the world. Literally don’t have to put any effort into actually recruiting people especially if they work for a good company.

It’s their job to get the best candidates for their company, but it is only a courtesy for them to respond to people they are not interested in. They are also understaffed and overloaded with everybody wanting to work there usually. If they want you they will definitely contact you. It’s a good idea to ping them once if you don’t hear back within a week just to make sure it wasn’t a mistake on their part.

They might not have a role for you right now or just closed/closing on a recent one.

I mean takes 5 seconds to reply that. If they can open and read the email, they have time to reply

Yeah I get that they could have a lot of emails but if they are able to click on my email and read it, it takes 5 seconds to type “Sorry, we’re not hiring for X role anymore” and hit send

You clearly have no idea what they do. I know several and talked at length about their role. They balance huge work loads, gets hundreds of email daily and have to prioritize work load to deliver for current candidates and they clients (hiring manager). They get swarmed with new grad emails all year and typically they prob don’t even work with talent that junior. Our company Has a whole team of recruiters that focus on new grad to inexperienced. You sound entitled and clearly don’t understand the role you insulted. What email have you drafted and sent in 5 seconds btw? I’d proof read a bit more.. 😜

Do you reply to every single recruiter who contacts you about a job opportunity? You probably don’t.

I do. And that doesn’t happen often.

What?! I get 2-3 recruiter spam messages per day on LinkedIn.

Microsoft TC $1 OP Oct 5, 2018

The rate of recruiters replying back has been close to 1-2%. Sent 50+ recruiters an email the last couple days and heard back from only a couple

OP are you a new grad in question? If so, do yourself a favor and adjust your expectations. No, recruiter won’t reply to you unless you interest them (especially right away) just like no one will reply to your application unless you look like qualified candidate and they want to proceed.

What are you looking for? New grad? Swe? Need sponsorship? We're hiring swe if you want to talk dm me

Something is not clicking. Either you are not right for the role, are pinging the wrong recruiters (some focus on design, eng, G&A etc. regardless if your background looked strong they would reply. Don’t mean to be harsh but the numbers you present tell me something is not right. Recruiters go through the same thing when they apply to jobs. It’s a competitive crazy market, stay positive and leverage your connections to get interviews.
