Put me through an interview process for a senior executive role, tell me how excited they are to extend me an offer, then balk at comp numbers. Note that I told them *before* I interviewed that I am a top tier L7 at Amazon in a key role, with comp "well into the L8 band" to make sure they understood before agreeing to interview. The recruiter said "I understand, that is on our range, we see this role as equivalent to a FAANG L8 role". And yet when the comp discussion came around, they said they don't think they can even match my current comp let alone beat. Note that this is a publicly traded company with a market cap in the 10-20B range, not some early stage startup.
Why do you even apply with small companies when you want tc?
Ummm... they just hired a VP from Amazon. Seemed like they were willing to pay for senior leadership roles.
They found someone cheaper
Did you give them actual numbers or you gave them levels only?
Recruiter fail... I always check recruiter’s linkedin profile to see if they know what they’re talking abt. Sounds like an incompetent recruiter.
What's your TC?
Was it SAP? We’re infamous for low balling anyone and everyone. Doesn’t matter if you’re bill gates
So? Free interview practice for you and prob free hotel and travel. Move on dude
You should have given a ballpark instead of assumed they knew. The range is also very wide and your idea of the band is different than theirs from the outside
Fair enough. I didn't assume though, the recruiter told me he knew. Next time I will explain what Amazon's L8 tech director range is to frame the conversation.
one possibility is it is a negotiation tactic of anchoring, by anchoring you, they’re hoping you respond back with the low end of what you’ll accept and they might actually offer it.
Did you give specific numbers or only refer to level?
He claimed he understood. Obviously not.
