Is it bc your feeling of self worth is tied to it? Or you have a lifestyle that needs it? For me, I took a significant pay cut to come to Google from trading. What matters is working with smart people on interesting problems. My life is simple -- I don't need more money (and make way more than I need already). And I draw my self worth from more than my comp. So why does TC matter?
I have seen the more TC the more you tend to spend it on luxuries of life... sometimes it’s because a peer pressure... we sometimes forget the difference between need and greed
Lifestyle inflation. Everyone is a victim of it. The question is to what extent?
You had the great luxury through hard work of being able to downgrade to FANG tc for happiness. To answer on behalf my low tc brethren, we dont have the luxury of making so much that we can say we dont need more.
I want to have the freedom to retire early and work on my passions full time.
Beyond a certain point (that is different for everyone), it doesn't matter
I’d be interested in hearing the story of from trading to IT. Also when you say pay cut, did you also consider stocks? In addition, I think part of the story of chasing TC might be related to your financial situation, if we are not talking about retiring earlier
Having savings is freedom. There's no point in earning a lot if you just spend it all on luxuries but if you're saving a large chunk of a good TC then you're slowly buying your freedom.
On Blind, it's basically a dick size comparison. And like such comparisons, there is a lot of fantasy involved.
Yes, it's the ultimate troll post. TC? As in My dick is too short what can I do? TC?
OP- congrats on finding a place you’re happy to work! If you really don’t need money, save as much as you can. Someday the people on that team might leave, and you might need to find a new group of people. Having money saved will give you the flexibility to work with whoever you want on whatever you want.

Does msft really pay this low?
Buy a house and have kids. Let's talk on this over a cup of coffee then.
This!
Ha ha, yes. College costs per kid are $80k minimum, and just go up from there. It will also take several $M saved to retire comfortably. Costs add up. Even someone making $30k/year (poverty line) burns through $300k in just 10 years.
