I often see posts here from Indians who move to a new city and ask for advice for best area to live. They usually say "I prefer area with large number of Indians". But if a white person say "I want to live in an area with large number of white people" everyone is screaming racism. Why double standard?
I think the bigger problem is if a white person feels lonely in this country and has to ask this he is in deep shit. Rasicism is his secondary problem
I think for Indians it's about culture. White isn't a culture from what I can tell.
You’ve clearly never listened to Michael Bublé while eating quiche for brunch in Connecticut, while wearing a Kiel James Patrick outfit.
Touche
For instance Indians look out for other Indians because they're in a foreign land and being closer to other Indians eases the transition. However this may not always apply to Caucasians. For the record, I'm totally for more mixing of all people.
WTF
Because you are conflating desire for cultural commonality with race. White people, from parts of Europe, do move here and say they want to live in a Polish or Irish or Italian neighborhood and no one screams. The problem is when white people exclude other races from their neighborhoods.
"The problem is when ANY people exclude other races from their neighborhoods." Fixed it
Sure. I was referring to the group with the pattern and practice the majority of the time.
I think this happens for historic reasons, white people conquered and ruled many “new-world” countries, thus people is more sensitive towards their comments. This is similar to the situation where a person can’t express freely his/her opinion in favor of family and traditional marriage as she might be considered intolerant/racist/against diversity, but lgbt community has public events and expects everyone respect them.
TBH Indians should be the last to complain about anything at least in Bay Area. Indians essentially rule South Bay.
Because whiteness and cultural identity are separate things. In other words, a white person from EU vs. Russia vs. US are different people
Yeah man, someone from Northern India is exactly the same as someone from a Southern India region. I'll bet the speak the same language too, huh? Looking like a real 🤡 right now.
Maybe not exactly the same, but by an large yes — you share the same country borders, politics, history, geography, national identity, similar food (with regional differences of course), etc.
It's the difference of nationality vs race. People from the same country share a culture and living closer to such a community makes it easier to have a sense of that culture. There are also things like having groceries and other stuff specific to a country. There are a lot of Indian stuff you won't find in a general shop but are available in a store closer to where a large number of Indians live.
I don’t get it. If you traveled 1/2 way around the world just to live around people just like you...why leave your village in the first place?
You comment shows ignorance on so many levels that I won't even try to argue on this.
Ignoring the probably borderline racist village thing, that’s a fair question. Generally, the ideal — which we’ve, as a society, admittedly fallen short of from time to time — behind America has essentially been “If you’ve got a strong back (or mind, in this era), and you’re willing to work, come on in.” And the expectation is that whatever culture you’re bringing to the table gets integrated into what was there when you arrived, i.e. the “Melting pot” where you have this evolving homogeneous culture. Segregating people from different ethnicities, races, etc... is counter productive to those aims, whether that segregation is institutional (slavery, internment camps) or self-imposed (Polish neighborhoods, South Bay). So why do it? My guess: Probably because people want the fruits of America, but they don’t want to pay the fee, because they fear losing some connection to their roots. But, wait a few generations from now though, and about the only thing you’ll have in those enclaves are restaurants that the owners drive to from their suburban homes where they’re living side by side with Americans just like themselves.

White people don’t say it, they just do it. And nothing wrong in that if it’s harmless.
