Can someone explain to me what Putin did that many other countries haven’t done? Russia was thrown out of G(8) because they invaded a country - how many countries have US invaded? Why is the US still in G(7)? I don’t follow politics that much so I am really curious to know. - Why is he a bad leader? - Why is Putin being considered the aggressors when US literally has surrounded their borders with military bases? While Russia doesn’t have a single base near US. - US pulled out of the anti-ballistic missile treaty. It is constantly other countries threatening Russia with both military and economics. I know Russia isn’t a great country in terms of free speech and LGBT rights - but these things have nothing to do with international conflicts. Which country do you think is the most aggressive one?
Invading far from Europe vs invading close to Europe. Because Europe still has a much higher position in world affairs (directly linked to $, standard of living) than do the Middle East or Africa. Russia makes Europe feel less safe. This has a bigger impact. Plus historical ties-though Trump is trying his hardest to undo them.
Eastern europe is not the same as western europe in terms of economy and quality of life. Its way behind. Some countries in middle east beat that.
Because he's a thug who became a billionaire through politics. He kills political opponents, lies, decives, and is probably super happy that there is hysteria about Russia in the US since it creates fear and division in this country
And the American presidents are not? Do you really believe that the American media is much better? Putin went from being a shoemakers son to achieve his dream of being a KGB agent and then worked his way into becoming president. To be honest, his story about taking the position as president is highly impressive. Manipulative, but impressive non the less. He took over a country that was in scrambles, look at it now.
American politicians don’t murder or jail opposition. At least not yet.
- Kills political opponents - Kills reporters who say bad things about him - Invades sovereign nations to -annex them into Russia-, something the US has not done in a very long time - Hates democracy, including rigging their own elections and attempting to rig ours Come on, there are plenty of reasons for us to look down on Putin. He's a KGB thug who is clearly against us and everything we stand for, no matter what Trump may think about him.
US doesn’t rig elections?! Instead they make hostile takeovers and place politicians in power that does what they say. Do you even know about the extremely hostile geopolitical war that US has played against Russia for the past 20 years? Look up how the US military bases in EU has been carefully setup since early 1990 until now. Then tell me who is the aggressor. If your neighbors start surrounding your lawn with bar wire and weapons - wouldn’t you feel the urge to defend yourself and your family?
You're missing my point. The items I listed are objectively bad. I didn't say the US is perfect. But he does those objectively very bad things, and he is clearly bad on a relative scale to the western world. So, you ask why a largely western-based audience would think poorly of Putin? The answer is pretty clear. He's objectively evil while being counter to their interests. Of course he's viewed as bad.
Russians shot down a passenger airliner in 2014 killing 298 people and there’s going to be zero accountability?
US shot down an Iranian passenger airliner 290 civilians dead. US confirmed that it was their missile but never apologized. There’s going to be zero accountability?
Admitting to the act is a good start...
Russians are meddling in this poll
Today, I think people are weirdly in awe of putin for totally owning trump.
I don’t like the Trumpet much, but opening discussions with Russia and treating them with respect is something that Trump is doing right.
After disrespecting everyone else on the planet it looks suspicious mate.
Why is everyone hating Kim Jungeun so much? Sure he killed his own people but so did Putin. He killed one person outside of NK using chemical but his chemical was much less contagious and scary compared to Russians killing the former agent’ family. He even destroyed his own nuclear testing site. Did Putin or Trump or Obama do that? He didn’t invade or meddled in any countries unlike Russia did to Ukraine and Syria or US did to middle east. Why is he a bad leader? Why is Kim Jungeun considered the aggressors when US literally has military base right on the border and continue pushing China and Russia to pressure North Korea? North Korea doesn’t have a single base near US. It is constantly US and South Korea threatening North Korea with both military and economics. I know North Korea isn’t a great country in terms of free speech and LGBT rights - but these things have nothing to do with international conflicts. Which country do you think is the most aggressive one amongst North Korea, Russia and US?
To have balance in the world there needs to be at least 2 super powers. US has been the sole police of the world with their own interests as priority for many years, with no one to say anything about it. These decisions of invading Middle East and putting pressure on countries needs to be made by several powers with different perspectives. North Korea killed someone outside of their own country? US killed how many civilians in Iraq? Afghanistan? Why did they invade? They said weapons of mass destruction but did they find any? There are no consequences for this? And the result was the raise of ISIS, well done! Do you even realize your hypocrisy of comparing the assassination of a person with mass slaughter of nations? Just because you think democracy is good it doesn’t mean that every country in the world has to follow it. I personally think that democracy is stupid, most people that vote don’t know anything about economics, planning, or politics. If you are in a boat with 20 farmers that say North and 5 expert sea navigators that day South, and we are going to vote for which direction to take, I would listen to the 5 navigators - not the 20 farmers. Dictatorship isn’t the way to go perhaps, who am I to say. But I feel equally for “democracy”. And to answer your question: US is the aggressor. Because they have full power to make decisions alone without consequences - luckily Russia and China are gaining power and soon the US won’t be able to bully the world around. We need balance.
I do think that your answer to my post is good, but it doesn’t change that US is more aggressive in the world than any other country out there.
What’s the point of this thread? To make Trump look not as bad as Putin? You are trying to compare what should be the shining beacon of the free world with a brutal dictator. That comparison is just wrong in of its own.
😂😂😂😂
Because the American war machine needs an enemy. It’s better to have a real one than a made up one but all is the same. America is as evil as it gets but the evil is practiced where an average citizen can’t see it and the propaganda machines take care of keeping people separate, untrusting and in some degree of constant fear. All of this is also done by people who put American presidents at their posts. They are puppets, nothing more. Putin is a self made man that holds the biggest country in the world together which is by no means an easy thing to do and he does no more or no different than the US, I would make up a number and say that 99% of the time what he does is silly compared to what we do. Thinking otherwise is naive at best but more like stupid.
I completely agree with you. But why do all westerners seem to cheer so much for US while hating on Russia? Is it so hard to see that they are the same? I’m not annoyed by the fact that both are “bad”. I’m annoyed by the fact of the hypocrisy. If Russia was in the same power position as US I have no doubt that they would do exactly the same. That’s why there needs to be several super powers in the world with equal amount of military force.
I don't know, a really large portion of the seemingly intelligent population is in fact very stupid. Majority lack any sort of common sense or any sort of ability for independent and unbiased thinking. People are just generally too comfortable and selfish so picking sides here is like picking a baseball team. You support your home team just because. Then there are decades of deception and brain washing against the former USSR in the US while Europeans are just fucking scared because Russia has always been capable of ransacking the whole continent by the sheer numbers. It is what it is but I can't help but giggle inside at the fools who by any stretch consider Russia to be worse than the US.
No option for both?
That would have been a good idea :)
