Have political agendas become more important than raising awareness of genocide and working together to prevent it? FYI, these Christians being killed are rarely white so don't come with any of that "but white people...." garbage. "The persecution of Christians in parts of the world is at near "genocide" levels" https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/uk-48146305 Update: I found this article which adds greatly to the conversation. It's written by a Muslim who does a great job explaining from a leftist perspective that this shouldn't be ignored or downplayed (though it largely is). "I am a Muslim, and I consider myself to be on the left, but I’m embarrassed to admit that in both Muslim and left circles, the issue of Christian persecution has been downplayed and even ignored for far too long." https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj7gJ-v3YXiAhXHHDQIHRcHCj0QzPwBegQIARAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Ftheintercept.com%2F2019%2F04%2F22%2Fwhen-christians-are-under-attack-muslims-and-the-left-need-to-defend-them%2F&psig=AOvVaw1KQuzHvAboPy49DMvvwUIG&ust=1557191727205485
News like this doesn’t fit the agenda
Christians are the dominant religion and are not suffering governmental/military persecution in the US. That’s probably why it’s not covered so much.
In the US it is the dominant religion. But the ones being killed aren't part of the dominant religion where they live. They are persecuted minorities. ...Given that they aren't white they would also be minorities here too.
I’m just saying that US tends to report on national issues over international ones. International news outlets are probably a better source.
Sure can’t blame the media source here. The BBC is definitely not a right-wing source. The Guardian (definitely left leaning) ran a similar story last week about rampant Christian persecution.
Interesting. So there is at least some media coverage. I haven't seen anything other than this single article.
But both of these are UK media sources. Your point is still valid regarding US media ignoring it. When a Muslim is given as much as a mean look, our liberal media will cover it.
Complete garbage
It obviously doesn’t fit the agenda of orange man bad. That’s pretty much all that matters to them at this point;
Actually I recently heard a podcast referencing this study and calling the use of the word "genocide" very misleading. Life is tough for christians in those countries but it's not even close to a genocide, they're just forced to leave or be refugees in other countries. The article itself says that: "The interim report said the main impact of "genocidal acts against Christians is exodus" and that Christianity faced being "wiped out" from parts of the Middle East."
You have to look at what happens to those who don't leave or don't have the opportunity to. Imprisonment, beatings, and possible death are hardly ignorable punishments.
Yeah, but not genocide. Not even close. That's the same bs of calling someone hitler if they're right leaning for example.
😂😂😂😂 the most murderous religion in human history complaining about being persecuted 😂😂😂
Islamic Jihad takes history’s top spot actually, and it is still going...
The Crusades and the Thirty Year War would like a word with you. It’s conservatively 100 million people and that’s without resorting to what the xenophobics on the other side do: you could probably justify including every single person the US has killed in a war zone if you really wanted to. Separation of church and state but you can’t ever elect an atheist (or care about elements of the constitution that don’t justify what you want to do) 😂😂😂
Religious minorities in most Muslim majority countries are treated as third class citizens. With apostasy laws, blasphemy laws, various restrictions on their role in society, restrictions on practicing their religion, etc. See Iran, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia for starters. Christian communities have been virtually wiped out across most of middle East. However discussing this doesn't fit the narrative of the Left in usa that believes that Muslims are victims. Hence the silence.
Your logic doesn’t follow. We concede that religious minorities in other nations are discriminated against. All we can control is our own country and set the right example by not discriminating against minorities here. We stand up for Muslims in America for the same reasons you’re complaining about in the Middle East.
Iran and Saudi Arabia are the two countries Westerners love to point out, because they are the extreme examples. And yes, in very recent times Pakistan — ever since Musharraf was forced to aid Bush in the War on Terror (or be bombed back to the stone ages like Iraq), extremist ideology gained popularity, particularly in the Northwest Frontier Province. However, traditionally Pakistan took pride in its minorities — that’s what the white part of its flag is for. They even had a Christian TV channel until recently. But yeah...the notion that Christians have “disappeared” from all Muslim countries is very silly. I think CNN and Fox give people that perception to make them feel better about the shitty state of US democracy. There are also plenty of openly gay and openly atheist media personalities in Pakistan and the Middle East, so, I question the notion that your head will be chopped off or something. (Well maybe in Iran or Saudi Arabia, but again, extreme examples with their own relatively recent historical baggage.)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world-asia-48198340 This poor Christian woman in Pakistan was on trial for blasphemy for 10 years. She was acquitted by the Supreme Court a few months ago but had to go into hiding due to the massive outpouring of anger and death threats after her acquittal. And finally she had to leave Pakistan. There have been hundreds of people accused and charged of blasphemy over the last 30 years in Pakistan. Britian refused to grant asylum to Asia Bibi "due to the sensitivities of her Muslim population". Goes to show that the hate and intolerance of Islam has taken root in Western Europe already.
That’s fucked up

First sentence has your answer: > The review led by the Bishop of Truro the Right Reverend Philip Mounstephen It is a garbage study.
Would you call research done by glaad " a garbage study" if it reported about the murders of gays in the middle East? You're just a bigot. Bigots always find reasons to justify their hate.
Is this a study by GLAAD? It’s not mentioned in the article (or I missed it).
