Why not vote Libertarian in 2020?

Unless you like more laws, less liberty and higher taxes I guess... or the incumbent to win.

Because I don’t agree with libertarian views on economic policies. They are a religionless-GOP. Same tucked up trickle-down bullshit that has been proven to not work.

Libertarian policies won’t do that. They are trickle-down bullshit from the GOP.

@BarFoo show me the current percentage of people working multiple jobs. Last time I checked it was around 5%. Is this like abortion where libs use an edge case and pretend like that edge case happens the majority of the time?
      Jul 1
    • Credit Karma EllisDee25
      ^you mean like late-term abortions?

Also 5% is the number of people who said they worked multiple jobs through a landline survey... and we all know millennials who work in the gig economy have landlines and homes!

The government doesn’t have data (well they have contradictory data) on who is unemployed or working gig jobs or working multiple jobs at any given time. When you are working poor it certainly seems like most people have side gigs. But when you’re in tech and people are working 9-10 hour days, it doesn’t seem likely that anyone could do that.

Democratic capitalism raised us from shitting in holes to complaining about how comfortable we are within the last 1/10 of history.

@fghast so if cars are more important than healthcare and education. Why don't you die in your car instead of going to a hospital then? Or perhaps you could drive your car around forever without a job and no education? We'll see how long you'll drive.

@Meliodas Receiving benefits does not create any obligation. Otherwise all theft would require is a token free gift. All contracts require explicit consent. Obviously some are executed digitally (click through, etc) but they still cannot be enforced without informed consent. There is no such consent implied in residence within a certain legal jurisdiction.

Tell me: in what way is the original example an invalid creation of an implicit claim to all of your possessions? Do you seriously think your neighbors could create a single-street legal entity and 'tax' all of your stuff?

You lost me at "all forms of economic privilege"... that's definitely not in the definition of any economic terms.

We do have some pretty free markets. Health insurance is not one of them.
      Jul 1
    • LinkedIn faghast
Free markets do not require perfect competition. That's a common misunderstanding of economics.

Certain formulas assume perfect competition to precisely compute values, just like physics often assumes no wind resistance (assumes a vacuum), assumes constant altitude, etc. to simplify the formulas. But nobody says "Physics only works if there's no air."

Trump has removed regulations and lowered taxes for all. He’s also delivered on fair tariffs which is. Not libertarian but better than what we’ve had.

But yeah, libertarian far better option than RINOs...

These extra trans rights are just not necessary. You can’t have a protected status that’s also something that you can self identify. Nothing else works that way. Now that said there’s nothing to worry about because we can already provide all the protections necessary. If you want to dress or whatever you already can’t be discriminated on that. It’s all good it’s a non-issue

As someone from Europe, I never understood how someone can be against free health care or free education. Yes, we pay higher taxes in Europe, but we get all of the above, I can go out whenever and wherever I want, I don't need to fear to get shot by some maniac, and public transport is excellent and cheap.
Where do all those US tax dollars end up?
Also, being already well off financially (no 400k TC, but much more than what I need to live well) I happily pay more tax if I know that everybody has access to the above.
Now go on and call me a dirty socialist 😁

If you want to change politics at the national level, you first have to start at the local level, then the state level, then get representatives in the federal level, and after all that, if you still have 0 senators, 0 representatives, 0 governors, and 0 seats in any upper or lower house of any state legislature, maybe, just maybe, you should give up on presidential runs and figure out why no one votes for you.

Economic nationalism is the medicine doctor ordered. Not that it doesn’t have its own downfalls but after 40 years of unabated neoliberal globalism a rebalancing is more than due

A huge segment of the country has been left behind. it’s so ironic because the Democratic Party used to be who cared and was supposed to stand up for these people. Now they’re just helping to push them farther and farther down by suppressing their wages with open border policy’s and pathetically asymmetric trade deals. We don’t need socialism to save these people, we just need to even the playing field a bit and let everyone thrive
      Jul 1
    • Lyft done2
We already decided to pick winners and losers when we made the trade deals we did back in the day. So yeah there’s trade-offs and at this point or rebalancing offer is massively more benefits than incrementally more of the status quo. That’s to me a pretty compelling argument

@Meliodas The evidence is overwhelmingly conclusive that more regulation causes less competition. What's baffling is that your own example supports the point, contradicting your assertion.

Over the last 80 years, regulation has skyrocketed as the administrative state ballooned. "The rise of monopolies and duopolies", while overstated, is evidence that regulation causes market consolidation.
