I’ve heard it’s a sweatshop. They treat eng like shit and expect them to work on weekends. Depends on your team I guess.
I work at Amazon. Tried to came to my office at SLU on Saturday one day. Everything is locked and I can’t even get in. And you are saying someone is working on weekends? What a joke. I leave at 5:30-6pm and I’m usually the last one leaving. Most desks are empty after 4:30-5pm already. Best WLB out of all companies I worked at before in the last 20+ years.
Dude, u are new .... U need to get an after hours card to get into the office . ... Hv been here 7 years and believe me most of the devs and sdms work in some form over the weekend ...mostly from home thou
No reason. It’s a great ambitious place. A lot depends on the team and manager. If that works for you then you should have no issues.
It is a good place to work. If you end up with a shit manager when you join it’s super easy to change teams.
Unless it’s not easy. Like now for example. Just saying and I’ve been here more than 4 years and been successful on several teams. But this statement is just straight up untrue.
Thing is though, I’ve seen people land incredible jobs after 2 years at amazon. Stepping stone. Dues paid.
It isn't like the NYT article. Is it fast paced? Sure. Does that pace sometimes create pressure? Sure. The upside is the ability to build something people will actually use
I know one of the sources named in the article. Her comments were contextually manipulated to say something different than what she actually said. That article is questionable at best. Excuse me. I have to go cry at my desk after I commit this commode code...

Which is now quite outdated. Amazon reacted pretty strongly to that article, some might say overreacted. Now there’s a hiring freeze because not enough people want to leave and they overhired. WLB is great for most teams nowadays, maybe not Microsoft or Cisco level coasting but pretty good.
