The trade war benefits many Asian countries. Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, etc, all will see factories move there from China.

The delusion Trump supporters have is that these jobs will come back to the US. They may move out of China for other cheaper countries but they aren't coming back to the US.

^ he owned you very clearly by providing a proof by contradiction using his own case. You said “The delusion Trump supporters have is that ...” No, they don’t have a delusion, and they don’t believe that. He showed it, and I back him up. 2 data points say you got owned. Looks like you’re the one deluded about what Trump supporters believe 😉

      He's not a Trump supporter

    • I'm not a trump supporter either but I also do have enough cognitive function to interpret metrics that indicate his policies are having a positive effect on the economy.

^ people like @vhhR4 have the mental deficiency of being unable to accept that even when the truth stares them in the face. That’s the extent of the leftist indoctrination

    • I'm actually leftist but I fear "left" does not mean left when it comes to this political shit storm.

I would prefer socialist policy but the democrats that have actual power don't provide more than a facade.

TL;DR Tulsi 2020 but I do realise unemployment is down.

Wouldn’t say this is the sole reasoning, but in economics tariffs are pure deadweight loss. It really hurts everybody but mostly the US

In a steady state that's true, that tarriffs are only bad. The question is whether as a short term punitive measure they can achieve better terms

Note that we weren't in a tarriff free world before this, China was imposing crazy tarriffs and other predatory trading tactics.

So if the outcome of a trade war is a better behaved China and long term also no tarriffs that could be an impoved economy.

      Politics are always complex.

Yup I get what you’re saying. It’s a nasty tactic for sure though. Basically holding a gun to someone’s head until they agree to your terms. Leadership through fear and power rather than through example and prosperity. But i think the current market activity accurately reflects the reality of what the tariff does to the economy short term.

Here’s the truth - Trump couldn’t care less about China or benefiting the American populace. What he’s really doing is currying favor by generating nationalist sentiment by creating this issue between the United States and China. This allows him to say he’s standing for the people of the States and Buy America and all of that - there’s no way he’ll back down, this strategy works with flyover states where his real demographic lies. A 2020 return gets more and more real with each of these things he does.

The last thing anyone should do is think Trump is a Luddite, he knows exactly what he’s doing.

Because people are more pessimistic in the US? Because it's not such a 'good deal' that trump is selling it as?

    Because RNG?
