Wouldn’t say this is the sole reasoning, but in economics tariffs are pure deadweight loss. It really hurts everybody but mostly the US
Here’s the truth - Trump couldn’t care less about China or benefiting the American populace. What he’s really doing is currying favor by generating nationalist sentiment by creating this issue between the United States and China. This allows him to say he’s standing for the people of the States and Buy America and all of that - there’s no way he’ll back down, this strategy works with flyover states where his real demographic lies. A 2020 return gets more and more real with each of these things he does. The last thing anyone should do is think Trump is a Luddite, he knows exactly what he’s doing.

Markets in Asia has been adjusting for a while while the USA market has been going up.
The trade war benefits many Asian countries. Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, etc, all will see factories move there from China. The delusion Trump supporters have is that these jobs will come back to the US. They may move out of China for other cheaper countries but they aren't coming back to the US.
Explain the unemployment rate being at it's lowest since 1969.
I don’t care if jobs don’t come back. I just don’t want China to ever come close to becoming a threat to US supremacy. I didn’t even vote for Trump but he is the only one with balls to stand up against China, no matter who comes after the economic war is here to stay.
