Once autonomous vehicles go live, the fleet will still be hybrid for decades (human and autonomous drivers). Uber’s never going to suddenly fire all our drivers or stop onboarding new ones if people want to drive.
Come on guys, we build complex systems daily, surely we could learn about constitutional separation of powers and not posit retarded shit like this.
Why didn’t they ban cars when they were invented? Millions of horse-carriage drivers lost their jobs!
Trump did the whole steel and aluminum tariffs to please a very small number of rust belt steel workers who helped put him in office in those key states he won by the skin of his teeth. Trump gives zero shits about the rest. He goes after Amazon, while ignoring the other job killer known as Walmart that gobbled up and hollowed our small town America all across flyover country. And the attacks on Amazon is just words. He won’t follow up with any actions. Too many rich people with skin in the game. Watch what happens with the Chinese trade war play as well. None of this will actually be implemented. It’s all bluff. In the end Trump will call up China and orchestrate how they’ll publicly smooth everything over and go back to business as usual by allowing Trump to brag about how he taught China a lesson in his PR stunt. It’s all a reality TV show folks.
Uber drivers are mostly immigrants and refugees who wouldn’t vote for Trump anyway.
And either way, they're mostly based in urban areas which rarely vote Republican
Ummm as much as you would like it, tRump is not the dictator or the emperor of these United States. He cannot "ban" technology on a whim.
Because they don’t get political contributions from taxi/Uber drivers. That’s the real reason.

So far self driving cars have killed way more people per million miles driven than humans do. They will certainly get better but arguably right now they don't belong on the road. Yes that "statistic" is resulting from a single Uber fatality. But that's the data we have and it implies that self driving cars are an order of magnitude more dangerous than humans and in fact are actually more dangerous than drunk drivers.
Need more data points on fatalities. Could be an outlier.
