Will Google acquire VMWare?

VMWare is doubling down on kubernetes, and Google is the leader but is struggling to gain cloud marketshare. As adoption of k8s increases, will Google consolidate its cloud with VMWare to be a strong competitor to the AWS/Azure dominance? Think ATT, Verizon, with Tmobile and Sprint attempting to merge to be a serious contender at 3rd.

I don’t think dell would be selling VMware to anyone

VMware is a cash cow to dell, they would never sell it

Well the point that google could buy Dell is a good one.

The interesting thing is that the market cap of Dell is just 33B versus VMW at 54B.

So Google could assume control of VMW for much less. Would probably cost 66B to own Dell outright. Then google would just sell off Dell minus Dell’s controlling interest in VMW.

Dell has lot more stuff than VMware.
Google should have no interest in other stuff.
If google wants they can potentially pay lot more and just get VMware from dell

Dell has nothing else of interest besides VMW. Most of Dell’s market cap is due to VMW. You are welcome.

VMware is using either AWS or Azure for hosting their services. It doesn’t make sense for google to acquire them. Also, fact check: most of the k8s (51%) is hosted on AWS.

Dell will not sell. Dell gets a seat at the table with major cloud providers because of VMW.

GCP beats AWS and Azure in compute and AI/ML, they’ll always be a strong player but because their biz dev is weak they won’t be a real challenge

VMware would be way better off working with all of the cloud vendors. VMware does not need gcp
