I got an offer from apple and google. Google ask for the offer for them to do the match. However, the recruiter from apple refuse to provide the numbers in email, they only told me the numbers over phone.

In thia case, I got the real written offer from apple and google beat this offer. Now, if i declined the official offer from apple will i be blacklisted?

Just reply with the same polite email that recruiters send when you fail interviews I.e. something like you really liked the experience and people you talked to and think this is a really great company Bla Bla Bla but at this point you've decided to accept this other opportunity but that doesn't mean Apple can't happen in future and you'd still like to keep in touch and see where things are in a year or two

Yeah something like.. Thanks for taking time and meeting me in person. Unfortunately, this time I have better offers and will not be moving forward with your offer. Please keep in mind that I want to grow rapidly and there will be opportunities for you in future to pitch in with better offers so please keep a close eye on my LinkedIn profile.

If you really just want to be at Google I wouldn't say anything about the offer since the recruiter can come back with more money and it'd reflect badly on you but if it is about money then yes

  • If you fundamentally prefer to go to Google, then do that. It sounds like the primary motivator for you is money, which is a shame. Maybe google is better for you 🤪

Yes, somehow OP doesn't want to impact humanity by making $999 stand. That's real shame. :)

Totally fine to decline as long as you don't accept then renege. The fact that you had a previous offer actually will help in the process if you ever want to interview with us again.

I have a follow up question in regards to this post. What happens to a candidate who applied but interviews very poorly at one point and time. Would Apple ever consider the candidate again?

Definitely. If it's for the exact same team they usually want to see at least a year go by, but you are welcome to interview with any other team at any point. Just because you do poorly with one team doesn't mean you're wrong for the company as a whole👌

Thank you! I’m a Mechanical Design Engineer and I’ve always wanted to end up at Apple. It is a dream job... just glad to know you’re not black listed for a poor interview.... I couldn’t define stress and strain.

I did poor, I own it.

If you haven't accepted the offer, there is no harm in politely saying no to them. They may keep this in records but it is something that you can't change.

That's fine. You can mention that you received better offer afterwards which is better for your career goals.

  • I assume you haven’t accepted the offer from Apple?

Then you are fine. It's only not cool if you accepted and then reneged. It might be better for next time when you apply to them, because they have a record of you passing their interview.

This scenario occurs because recruiters don't want to extend official offers to have them turned down. That is often one of the metrics they are judged on, so they get verbal agreement before sending you anything written.

Every email, phone call, or LinkedIn message you have with a company is recorded in their database. Always be aware of this. In your Apple vs Google case, however, it sounds like you’re fine. Take the project that will bring you the most joy.
