Will Uber have the same fate as Yahoo! ?

Like Uber, Yahoo was once considered a pioneer and behemoth in internet space. A couple of decades later only thing valuable at Yahoo was stakes in Alibaba and YJapan. Will Uber have the same date where only thing it ends up holding is stakes in Didi and Asian partners?

G was single handedly responsible for taking down Yahoo.

Also Yahoo stayed around way longer for Uber to be in that category yet.

    Also Uber isn't done yet!

That's true. But wait Uber is already 10 years old. G didn't single handedly kill Yahoo. Bunch of misteps did.

You’re comparing apples and oranges. Uber’s business model is unsustainable without burning through VC cash. Once they raise prices they will be a taxi company that has an app. Short of a miracle they won’t be profitable. Yahoo sold ads for the most part and lost out on newer and better ad models.

And Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy in 1997 until Steve Jobs begged Bill Gates for money and Microsoft saved its ass. There were plenty of people like you back then that thought they could see the future too.

  • One thing Yahoo failed at was not being innovative. I think Uber is way better than that. IMO Uber is here for long term.

Yahoo had a business that made money. They lost out to competitors who made money.

Uber has a business that no one is sure can even break even except for people who don’t know how to read financials. They compete with other companies that also lose money on every unit.

The only relationship between yahoo and Uber is both of their names have an “oo” sound.

      Well
      a. Your title here says you are at Google. That's just a fact. Please don't take an offense
      b. Compare Apples to Apples. Yahoo in its current form should be compared with the products and services of its competitors. Go read Verizon's annual report if you wanna learn more on Yahoo.

Lol. I didn't even take offense. No one cares about Google finance. If you are comparing Yahoo's current form, then you didn't understand the question.
