So after a while at MS ( still love the company) I'm going to a competitor. I will likely be walked out. Obviously my H-1 transfer will be complete but I'm trying to figure out what start date to set at new company. Should I still join 2 weeks after I get walked out? Or the very next day? What is my official last day at MS if walked out? On H1 I believe we cannot have overlapping tenures so I'm concerned if I start the next day at New company but MS pays me for 2 more weeks it could be a problem? Any advice? Current TC : 300 New TC: 400
Are you going to Google or Amazon? If Amazon are you coming as L6?
OP if you don’t mind can you share your years of experience and who would you be joining ?
I have 12 YOE after Masters
Sounds like you are expecting to get walked out ... Did you count on that for choosing the start date ? I gave my 2 weeks notice recently for a competitor and did not get walked out. 300k is a good comp. I'm assuming 65+ level.
I would rather not get walked out to be honest but I think they will walk me out. So I'm trying to plan. Did you disclose where you are going? Yes 65
I actually wanted to be walked out, so I mentioned the competitor name. Unlucky me, was allowed to stay ...
I'm specifically trying to understand about being walked out of MS while on H1. Anyone been in that situation and when did you start at new company?
OK here we go : AWS L7 PM
Yeah I can imagine you will be walked out since you are going from azure to AWS. Nice job on your TC bump !
Why do you need to tell them you are going to a competitor ?
I would rather not if it gets me walked out. But I heard if you don't HR walks you out anyway. So trying to be prepared.
Hr walks you out if you don't reveal where you are going? No KT?? doesn't do any good for MS.. Don't you think it will be your manager taking that call? Is your manager expected to fill in where you are going when they submit your resignation notice??
H1 has 60 days grace, but don’t abuse it. https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-publishes-final-rule-certain-employment-based-immigrant-and-nonimmigrant-visa-programs
Thanks.
60 days from last date of employment before you go out of status. Confirmed with an immigration attorney.

If they walk you out, take 2 weeks vacation. Some companies pay for the 2 weeks notice but aren't required to as employment is at will in California. Better question: Why are you worried about 2 weeks pay at 400k upcoming TC? Get walked out? Take a break and recharge. Don't get walked out? Have fun and leave on good terms.
Not concerned about the pay. Question is about visa it's tricky as you can neither have a long gap between jobs and no overlap either. So in trying to understand what start date to set at new company
3-4 weeks gap on H1B is fine. I asked the lawyers. As long as you have an offer from another firm, and in your case your next h1b is approved. You should be fine. Just take a break
