Will you take a 200k paycut for a remote job?

I got two job offers, one is FB M1 in Seattle, the other one is a mid-size company M2 remote job. Even though FB is higher by 200k, I felt it’s so difficult to choose.

One side, I can live a decent life with 360k anywhere else. The other side, 200k (only 125k post-tax) difference is substantial enough to allow me retire earlier.

Another concern, People can interview with Facebook every year, but high paying remote job is very rare.

As a manger, my only job is to show up in meetings, maybe I can keep 100% of the paycheck.

When your calendar is filled with meetings from 9 to 5, You will miss the peaceful coding life. You won’t even have to time to leetcode.

You can’t do it legally. Facebook doesn’t allow you to have another job while employed. It’s in the contract.

I personally think remote will be more and more popular in the future. Coding is not really an office job. Companies can pay less and you don’t have to work your ass off to buy million-dollar condos. Win-win.

Citadel checking in. Us, 2sig, Jane, DE, Jump, Wolverine, CTC, Optiver- plus a few more. Yea we'd all beg to differ.

Judging people based on what company they work for is dumb. I worked at two FANG for six years total, and a start-up you've never heard of. Guess which one had the most talented coworkers :)

I'm guessing this guy is being sarcastic. But I'll admit I'm very insecure about people talking down to my career.

I guess it depends. I got a hard one. Coding bar is the same as E5/E6 ic roles, according to recruiter.

Its not. You can have sloppy coding round and still get the offer as i did. In fact my recruiter said if you have limited time for prep, focus on system design and behavioral/ppl management rounds.

Fb pays 560k for new m1? God damn internally promoted people are getting screwed

      OP
It really depends on candidate’s experience and interview performance. FB offers me more money but smaller scope. I know many internal promoted M1s are very young.

Pick an ideal low CoL location. Plug that and remote TC into your net worth projection. Now do the same for Seattle and FB. Which one gets you there faster? Do that one.

Have you ever worked remote before? If not, you may find that it’s not as nice as you are expecting. I found that since I had to be working anyway I might as well be in an office and enjoying the perks there. Especially if you are in meetings all day it might actually be nicer to be at work.

You need at least 300k RSU per year to reach 560k. So you got 1.2m RSU?
