Withdrawal from Amazon accepted offer

Anyone has withdrawn the Amazon University Hire offer after accepting the offer or didn't join after accepting? What are the reasons you gave HR for your withdrawal and any repercussions? My friend wants to withdraw his acceptance now just before 3 weeks of joining. Will there be any big issue?

No. Unless they spend anything in terms of immigration, just give your real reason. I think you can even tell them to postpone date for 6 months or so, if they agree and situation works for you then it’s good. If they don’t, you will be fine as well.

Yes, I gave a very generic reason, but more than 3 months in advance. Withdrawing 3 weeks before joining might be less well received.

You'll be fine - just blame some location/personal stuff and leave it vague. "Love the company (even if you don't) would love to reach back out in a few years if things change"

The recruiter might be kinda pissed depending on how close your start date is. But other than that business is business and if it’s taken personally by anyone at Amazon then that person needs to be reprimanded

Just be open and honest.

Since your bf is a University candidate, they might reach out to the University regarding this. Happened with me , I reneged on a summer internship offer due to personal reasons two four months before joining and was summoned by the career office to state my reasons. I joined Amazon and they had a doc which mentioned that if I renege they will reach out to the university. I don't know how often they do it though
