In Bay area for women interviewing for senior engineering roles (EM / Director level). I have heard of guys wearing jeans / trousers and dress shirts to most interviews. Keeping it clean, comfortable and simple. What are the rules for women these days? I could really use some help please.

I wear comfortable yet fashionable jeans to job interviews and if I get the vibe that the interviewer is a traditionalist about clothing, I write the place off.
Depends on what you would like to wear everyday at work. Then notch it up by one for the interview. (I am a man)
Doesn't really work for women if they dress too nice as they can be seen as less technical. Conscious or unconscious. I have been called a recruiter or designer so many times but more when dressing nicer.
Tell me about it! When I hire for my teams (as a skip level manager), many times candidates confuse me for a recruiter and start asking questions about office building and facilities. It is funny to watch! Not sure if it has to do with dressing. Without getting into a tangential debate about equality / fairness / biases, I do not mind playing it up if it helps. I hear dressing standards for women are higher. Look at Mark Vs Sheryl Sandberg. Show me one woman CEO who wears jeans and blouse / tshirts!
Jeans and a blouse? Nothing too nice though.
There are no rules - wear what you want Personally it would make me more impressed if when I interview a lady, she both excels technically and dresses nicely.
Thanks doubletake! I'm looking for honest views like this.
Interpersonal impression matters.
I can tell you what not to wear... Parties :-)
How do you wear a party?

I am a software dev and I wear dresses to work every day. If I interview with other companies I consciously make the choice to dress down. For one thing, I change to pants/jeans with a top.
A suit.
