I started recently at Robinhood and they just announced that no one is allowed to work from home unless they’re sick or have a medical reason. When I started, the recruiter told me they allowed WFH. Out of curiosity, does your company allow WFH? If so, what’s the policy?
in fb is never go to office on wednesday
Yes. WFH whenever you want as long as you tell the people you are having meetings you are calling in.
My managers pretty lenient but very few people do it. So it’s permitted but culturally unusable.
I've heard it's pretty common across Amazon. Are you talking about the culture of your team or the culture of the company?
Just my team. At a previous company (Fortune 500) in the Bay Area it was not only accepted but encouraged. At Amazon, it’s still ok but I rarely see it being done.
yes but it is discouraged unless you’re sick
WFH is one of the largest parts of work life balance. If your manager and above can't trust subordinates with working from home, why are they hiring them in the first place? There is definitely something to be said for interacting with colleagues to generate great results, but when arbitrary "you must be here" policies are in place that's an immediate red flag that micromanaging is abreast
Can pretty much wfh whenever, even wfV whenever too if that’s what you wanna do (work from Vegas)
That’s OOO not WFH. But i think cisco folks use it interchangeably😄
Sure do!
Reposting from the thread: yeah this seems really shitty. To me, it makes the management team seem uptight and uncompromising. OP, do you think you’ve found this to be the case?
Intel - really depends on your manager. Changed 3 teams - first two were okay with one day a week, third one was complete enemy of wfh Broadcom - generally possible, but a lot lab work in r&d requires your presence obviously. So on hiring stage the answer was negative, but most of times my manager is okay with it if I have nothing in lab that can block me (researcher, fw development)
Bruh, you went to one of the top companies out there and have a chance to kill it and get paid$$$ and this is your complaint? Is work there horrible?
We have a pretty supportive WFH, several people even do it full time or for a full month. It’s specially good for immigrants that can visit their families and WFH
Yea, a lot of my family is in China. I was hoping to go back occasionally and WFH.
Another reason to love the Times 👏
