Work culture SCOT team at Amazon

Have got an offer from SCOT (Supply Chain Optimization Technologies) team at Amazon as L5.
(Specifically looks like they are working on demand/inventory demand prediction).
Work wise, they seem to/pitched as to doing some heavy ML work.

Any insights as to how the team is work-wise, culture wise, WLB,.. would be super helpful.

Edit: Forget TC(Still in discussion), I only want insights as to how the work culture is, nature of work, importance of the team at higher level(Visibility) and promotions.

It was more for me. I might ditch my job if your numbers look good enough

What level were you offered? In SCOT, promotions are exceptionally hard, even more then rest of Amazon. If L5, be prepared to stay there.

Yes L5 it is. Rotate you mean within Amazon or somewhere else. Because I believe doing it within Amazon only makes it worse as my history kind of gets reset without a bump in level or numbers

Also is it exceptionally hard because of such competent people and expectations for L6 or just the nature of the team?

It hard because SCOT is a large org that has been around for a long time with a very mature system. As such it's hard to make meaningful improvements to justify L6 promo.

Thanks. Makes sense. Let’s say I plan to move on in a couple years making L6 not an issue, Any opinion on the work, culture there. Especially ML part.

Depends on the team. SCOT in a huge org. If you on the forecasting team (inventory prediction). They have ML problem that are interesting. The problem is the same rest of SCOT: they already a really good forecasting system, so your not going to be doing anything that cool. There are exceptions since SCOT is like 1000 people, and forecasting is 300.

There's more operational research scientists in SCOT than ML

Interesting. But work description was about building models that do demand prediction. Sorry for the lack of specificity under SCOT, but this team under SCOT seems to be doing inventory/demand prediction which I believe is more of ML than Operational research.
