Work-from-home policy/limits

I am surprised when I see how many people on Blind discuss their companies allowing only one or two days a week to work from home. I work for a 90-year old company (which people usually associate with antiquated workplace culture) and I get to choose where I work from at all times. I don’t even ever tell my manager if I am working from home. And I work in hardware! I am curious about how it is for everyone else.

What companies are you guys at that allow this? Any FANG?

I can WFH anytime I want for any reason. No need to clear it or any of that.

How long did it take you to get to this? And are you in Austin or Seattle? I’m currently 100% remote but I’ll be starting at Amazon next Monday and would like to continue remote work

This is with <1 YoE in a new grad position. I'm located in Seattle. Not full remote, still expected to be in the office some, and I do go most days because it's easier for me to focus, but super flexible overall.

I can work from home on the last day of my job.

You probably have some privacy and not an open office. Also work is more likely to be more chill. In FAANG wfh is the most productive time. Without a ton of distraction

I’m a new hire, and if it wasn’t for all the long timers pushing back against the zero WFH policy this place tried to push in August, I’d be up a creek with zero days.

I worked from home and was told there’s no work from home policy just be mindful of when you do it which means absolutely nothing so idk

Pretty much means do whatever you want as long as you don't piss your manager off, I think.

They made it seem like I wasn’t supposed to work from home but didn’t want to explicitly say it. Why else would they pull me aside and say something to me the day after? Either way I keep working from home now and then until there’s an official policy or someone explicitly tells me not to. But I’d love to work from home once a week on the regular but feel weird doing it. No one else does unless they have some special “reason”
