Tc: ₹23 lacs Yoe: 1 Currently in India, wish to work in USA for 2 years with a sole purpose of saving money. Am a bachelor. Which states to live & companies to work should I target? I have 4 more months to prepare. Currently have completed going through Leetcode easy and medium. Will be starting with Leetcode hard in few days. I believe I can prepare well in 4 months. Then attempt interviews.
Why US?
I am fine with any country. Please suggest company and country.
I won't suggest companies but I think in the current situations I would suggest Canada or EU. Especially Germany
You can try microsoft Redmond , avoid California if pure intent is to save money
Homie, do you have a work visa? Clearing the interview is the easiest part of getting a job in the US. If you do have a visa somehow, then Netflix, Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft I guess.
I agree. If I crack the interviews, will the offering company sponsor the visa?
Hmm, If you don't already have a visa, I don't think it's worth your time attempting this man. Sure there's a small chance, but the odds of getting a US company to apply for a 25% lottery once a year to get you on board 6 months after that, especially considering 1yoe, seems really hard.
I have flagged this comment as inappropriate. Should take some career questions seriously.
Sounds like you are scurred @lkit
If you want to move to the US from India, your best bet is to get an internal transfer on a L1 visa to a US office of your company, then get an H1B , and then switch jobs in the US. If Microsoft isn't allowing transfers, switch to Google/Amazon/Uber, then work there for 1 year and transfer on an L1. If you want to move to Europe, apply directly to wherever you want to work, they will sponsor the visa.
Get a job at amazon, you just need 1 promotion from L4 ( SDE1 ) to L5 ( SDE2 ) and you can transfer to US on L1B. Looks like you need 3 promos to get to 62.. H1B is tough with the lottery, companies may not be willing to wait or take a risk. If you already in US or on student visa that’s a different matter, but you are not so I recommend the Amazon route as your quickest route to US.
Or join Google or Uber where you transfer as SE1..
If your objective is to save a lot in the short term, then your best bet is to try for a job in Google or Facebook in the Seattle area. They pay the same in CA and WA, so you get to save a lot more in WA with no state tax and slightly lower cost of living.
I don't think you have any idea how it works here. No company is going to entertain you for an interview without valid work authorization. Do you have that or just wasting people's time here?
Not sure you have the right information. Facebook frequently interviews international candidates with no work authorization in the US for positions here. If you pass the interview, they initiate the visa application process. You can start working once it’s done (which can take months).
H-1 Visa, for an Indian with skills that can be found in people already in the US with work authorization?
You won't save any money. Trust me!! Stay back in India.
Can't agree any more.
I disagree, since OP said he is bachelor, single India guy saves a lot by sharing apartments and other things. They don’t have any major expense like mortgage, day care, fancy cars etc
