I have been working as Salesforce developer from last ~5 years and pretty good at it. Currently making about 150k after taxes and working for a desi consultancy. What do you guys suggest for me to go after? I don’t think I can try for companies like google and amazon by learning data structures and algorithms. Is there any other track for people like me given my background? I am trying for Enterprise companies like Fidelity, State Street but they are not willing to take H1B. Additional info: On H1B with PD 2016 in EB2. Wife working but planning to quit to take care of two kids. Lives in Northeast region. Interested and expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Core Java. Thanks in Advance and looking for any kind of career advice for my situation.
Cant you pretty much work anywhere coding in java? I thought apex was equivalent
So you suggest I switch to Java?
Well if you wanted a new job it would probably be easiest to look for one involving java
Learning data structures and algorithms enough to pass googles bar is not that bad. Don’t get discouraged if that’s what you want
Lets say, even if I try heard and prepare for one year then how should I even apply for companies if my background is in Salesforce technology?
If salesforce development remotely resembles coding(it may or may not I have no idea) then just call yourself a programmer. Most people adjust their background to fit a role they want
Hi Amazon has multiple orgs looking for good Salesforce developers/engineers. It’s pretty big implementation and there are 50+ Salesforce teams looking for good resource which hard to find. Salesforce Engineer bar is diff than regular dev .... so I would recommend u to apply at Amazon. Even I know Google and FB has Salesforce teams so give a shot u never know.
So, I don’t need to know data structures and algorithms like a SDE role? Thanks!
No not like regular SDE’s but you should be good at Apex and basic java. It’s very imp for Salesforce Engineer to think about coding as the last option and this can happen only if you are good at understanding the business.
Don't waste your time for State Street, they are laying off people every year - biggest chunk in US.
One of my friend referred me in StateStreet but HR told him that they are not taking H1Bs for the moment. Its a good thing for me then 😀
Could you say more? Saw a very tempting opening there.
