Just wanted to know what's it like to work there. I'm trying to get a job at center city in Philadelphia and want to know how people like it. I have a few basic questions. 1) what do you like the most 2) what do you hate the most 3) how is the 401k match? 4) how expensive is healthcare? 5) what is your favorite perk? 6) are the computers fast? ( Dumb question, but my computer right now is slower than my 4 year old laptop, no ssd and only 4 GB of RAM) Add anything I missed and just some general information. Thanks!!
Culture is amazing it's very much hands off from managers. 401k is going up from 6 to 8% you can get some solid computers honestly never really cared. Obviously the best perk is free cable. You get every premium channel for the most part and high speed internet for $25 a month
I'm young so I have no idea about other healthcare but I think I pay $100 a month for health vision and dental. It's hard to get in as a employee but the best way is to start as a contractor and kill it
Best perk is the free services. Safe so much just from that.
Computers depend on your dept budget, but you should be able to get whatever you need. I hate the old school culture, power is consolidated amongst the elite... You are not empowered to make change like in a true tech company. What I love is how large and decentralized it is, means plenty of opportunities to move around within the same company. In project management, there is no centralized EPMO so every group will have their own PM people which I suppose is good but also is frustratingly inefficient.
The "hands off" for management is indeed true. It's very frustrating in the technical side of the organization because it means a lot of middle management that doesn't actually know anything. Attitude is, managers don't need to know, just manage.... Which is okay in most fields but very bad for newer tech.
Well hoping I can change that with some education. I feel that people simply don't know the limitations of technology or what might be the best way to handle a problem ( better sometimes to frame work it and then let the r&d take it from there sometimes) I usually take a problem from a business team and try to answer it through what technology I know ( python and sql) and how would I handle it, I propose that idea to the r&d team and if they want to change the method for more efficient code I'm all for it as long as it solves the problem. A huge over sight I see often is not thinking for expansion. For example we only care about 5 values or metrics now , but 2 years down the line we will most likely care about more, build to handle more data
Really good to hear, I hope I can get into the company would really like to do that , I honestly hear a bunch of good things. Thanks so far for all the advice and knowledge
I’m not an FTE, but consulting at Comcast for over a decade... all my FTE friends love it. Especially the benefit packages... I haven’t gone FTE because I enjoy jumping from group to group solving problems and moving on... but that’s just me. I would highly recommend working for Comcast because the people are phenomenal!
Engineers are undoubtedly good. mostly willing to help each other. Top Management thinks they know the best and generally slow things down.
Would like to confirm I'm looking at PM type of roles, but culture is culture so...
