Working at Oculus, timing better now?

What have people heard about Oculus recently? Esp around leadership and how their focusing priorities for 2018 and beyond?

I’ve heard from a few people around Oculus culture that didn’t seem super positive but rumors might just be rumors.

Uber ATG’s VP of engineering (Jon T) just left Oculus which gave me some pause as well.

Thoughts?

Oculus was a little awkward for a while but seems to be getting better. There was a management change that put in one of the better higher ups and it seems like it's getting better headway.

Would you mind expanding on what changes you’ve seen exactly? Just trying to get a more concrete idea of what I’m potentially putting myself into for the next 2-4 years

More focus/better prioritization. It's hard to deal with problems if the higher ups aren't good about acknowledging it; the current lead is excellent at addressing those awkward elephants in the room.

Next 2-4 years will be a lot of rapid growth. If you get in soon and have the leadership/initiative for it, you may be able to position yourself well for some interesting green field projects.

It does kind of depend on your specific situation. However, VR/AR is a big investment area for FB so it's unlikely that large funding cuts will happen (save some sort of existential $$ squeeze, but FB's good about having buffer)

Thanks for the input here, this is really helpful and encouraging. I see a lot of similarities between oculus and Uber ATG in terms of big bold bets, running independently and playing a major role in the future success of the company.

I won’t be having any type of leadership capacity soon, I have about 3 years of experience so would be playing the role of IC for a couple more years I think.

How’s the overall sentiment around Hugo been so far? What have you heard there?

I don't know much about Hugo. That side seems to be ok but you'd have to ask around for more opinions.

Oculus Research seems to be "they can do pretty much whatever they want as long as they have a reasonable plan". Abrash seems to have a strong, carrying personality from what I've seen of him but I also don't really know details.

I'm really curious about this as well. Talking to a recruiter about Oculus in Redmond
