Hi all. I'm looking for a AWS position on Amazon Brazil and, coming from MS, would love to know opinions about cultural differences, benefits, etc, specifically for subsidiaries, which tend to differ from those of Seattle/Redmond respectively. For ex. One of the things that worries me is that NYT article about AMZN: does it apply to subs and AWS? Is that piece still real? Thanks bunch
I work in AWS, and have worked in two different geographic offices, and I have never seen the things mentioned in those articles. My work, coworkers, and managers have been great
AWS is a better culture overall than Amazon’s consumer org, so you’ll have that going for you. Additionally, non-Seattle offices at Amazon tend to have an even better culture. So overall I think you’ll be fine
It’s my experience that fairly large structural changes were made across Amazon as a whole as a result of the bad news articles and such. I work in EC2 and it’s quite comfortable with relatively little stress (won’t say there’s no stress).
How much low level programming do you do in the EC2 team?
There’s a good amount that goes into KaOS and other software that gets deployed to droplets during region buildout. A lot of the code that handles droplet ranking, rack diversity, etc. Also, droplet vetting after a droplet is returned by a customer.
