Just an idea came to my mind today. A management system that rewards you in your work the same as you are rewarded with xp and gold in WoW. You would have different levels in different areas and can pick any tasks from any project at the company if your level is close enough on the required fields. Same as in WoW quests (grey < green < yellow < orange < red). If a task cannot be broken down then it could require more than one people (like an insta in WoW), so people can form a group to solve it together. That way you would get rewarded almost every day and you can feel how you progressing. You can pick any entry tasks form any fields that interest you so in time you can master it by solving problems. If there are shit tasks that nobody is willing to do, just increase the gold reward and for sexier tasks it can be reduced. Every month you have a target to reach with your gold. If you are below then you will have a talk with your manager and if you are above then you get a bonus to you salary. Architects: design the system and break it down to very small units and tests. Task writer: working close with the Architects and write the actual tasks with the corresponding levels on areas, experience points, gold reward and estimated time. Every task has a forum where people can ask, discuss etc. Programmer/Tester: can pick any task from any project that is close enough to his/her level and has the dependency knowledge, max N at a time. In completion he/she gets the rewards. If its not done in the estimated time then its taken away. The reward is adjusted to the level. I'm pretty sure that this idea is full of flaws so be gentle and constructive while I'm bending over :) TC: < $100k (EU)

If there were internal currency and directors had to bid for engineers that would be cool. The bidding process would basically be a performance review. Ideally directors could sign engineers on a one year or three year contract for X amount of internal salary per year. But the engineers get to evaluate the bids vs the director and their vision like sports athletes get to pick their next team. Engineers would be busy working so they would need managers who worked for them and took a 10% cut. Good managers would have relationships with the best directors and help showcase their engineers work. Bad managers would get dropped by the engineers and be making no internal salary. If your internal salary is higher than your real salary then you get a raise/promotion. If it is lower you get less money. If your internal currency goes to 0 for X months, clearly you are not valued anymore and you get fired.
Well that would be cool for architects but for engineers, I think its better if they could just choose well defined tasks from whatever projects they want. This way they would have more freedom and not bound to any project. Projects would have budgets and if a project is not completed then the architect is to blame.
Why are you trying to change a system that isn’t broken? I enjoy my 6 hours of work a day, four days a week for 250K TC two years out of school.
Nobody said its broken but its not perfect either. I just got inspired by the WoW rewarding system and tried to design something similar to work :)
i had a similar idea for a long time but focused on kids, are you interested in making it a side project/startup?
Nice to hear that I'm not alone with the idea but currently my main focus is leetcode and a better employer :)
Work offers very little reward aside from intrinsic accomplishments, promotions, and lay. Samsung please build this shit cuz it sounds cool as fuck As devils advocate though, businesses exist to make money. If this idea isn’t helping that mission, it’s fucked

This will provide steroids to the already existing rat race.
It depends how you setup the economics but yes, some will level up faster than others, just like in the game.
