Dr. Abdul Kalam, the late President of India envisioned that India would emerge as a developed nation by 2020. We are at the doorstep of 2020 but India is still eons away from being a developed nation. What do you people think is holding India back? I strongly believe its the caste system that prevents any grass root level development. It prevents any sort of unity among the people. Indians believe so much in karma that they do not have much compassion for those who suffer. If there was any compassion, the elite institutions such as the IIT’s would have made atleast some inventions to elevate the poor or their working conditions. Education is a great equalizer but that is denied to such people in these institutions either because they cannot afford it or because of untouchability in the minds of both the fellow students and the teachers. Recently, a bright muslim student of Chennai IIT suicided due to alleged persecution from the upper caste teachers. Such suicides are common in IITs and apparently noone speaks up due to fear of losing internal grades. What good is education without compassion? As long as such mindset exists, being a developed nation will remain a distant dream. There are some states though with equality, they should break away from this irrational country and be a separate developed nation.
Not in your lifetime (next ~80 years)
Couldn’t agree more on it, but I am optimistic that someday in the future whether india will become a developed nation or not at least it will be egalitarian society, otherwise it will disintegrate.
Not in next 50 years. But sure for real most of the Europe could become more of less like India in my lifetime.
India is a huge opportunity right now for entrepreneurs. Billionaires will be made as India develops
Yes, w.r.to opportunities, and there will be more millionaires, but that doesn’t address the problem of how people treat each and other and 50% of the people think they dont not belong to main stream, this is one of the reason why we have shitty Politians
70% of indian population is below poverty line. Even if India generate billionaires by dozens everyday, it will only widen the already wide income inequality
No
The elite institute you mentioned work hard on breeding good programmers engineers but name one quality research done by these elite institutes. They have a shitty phd program and still follow the colonial way of licking the guides ass when it comes to writing up thesis
India can become developed nation only if they stop trying to be boss in south Asia. They have to open business for all other nations around them. Make peace with Pakis and open business relations with them. Forget fighting with China, you are not match with China.
Open business for all other nations around them.... You mean let China flood Indian markets with even more useless crap. Protectionism is working for US and manufacturing is moving out from China. Make peace with Pakis....You mean same pakis who send Jihadis to India every year across the border. Too bad you don't know what's going on in Xinjiang because weibo doesn't show censored stuff to you. Match China?? You mean the same China which acts as a regional bully to all neighbors it has. Claims South China sea, Taiwan, Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh in India. Builds fake islands to grab territory. Has no respect for privacy or intellectual property. Good grief that India is not following China.
It has no relation with the rest of South Asia. The whole of Europe developed while fighting with each other.
Your question mentions very few problems. In reality, there are 100s of problems. Religious leaders with no or poor education getting into politics(and winning). Lack of education or very poor education available to most of the population. So many middle class people also have no interest in educating their kids. Enrolled in the best schools, but passing because of bribes and donations. Leaders saying shit like each Hindu family should have atleast 10sons to carry forward hinduism!! No wonder it is a shit show. I do not follow any religion so please pardon me if you didn’t like my comments. Yes there are people who are trying to better the nation but I think that is a very small count comparatively and/or lacks the means.
