A recruiter reached out to me from MSFT. I had an insider look at the team and see what they do. The work seem interesting, but everyone (total of 9 engineers) are from the same ethnicity (including the managers). Their name is definitely not Americanized so I'm assuming they aren't born in the US.
No. I probably would think about it three times. I am not racist to my own people lol but I know my people too well. It’s always good to have a team mixed with different background.
Diversity for the win
In this case yes :) ethnicity wise. Gender wise would be a bonus.
Nepotism is there in every culture but I agree with I11. Majority Indian team means politics and nepotism.
You'll be treated like king in the team since you are the precious species! As Chinese myself, my team in my first job was all white and second was all Indians and I didn't have any issue at all.
All Indians team is too risky. They are here in the US for the survival from their country. It means there could be lot of politics between them.
This is so true it’s painful
They dont recognize you based on ur performance, it is based on your how well you do ass your boss
No, the more the diversity the better growth.
I once joined an all Asian team and it was a terrible experience. I am not a racist and I did not think about this at all when I joined that team. But through the years, they made me miserable in every way they could. Maybe being a woman contributed to the issue, but they excluded me, put me down in front of others, were obviously nice to Asian women of other teams whereas super mean to me, ... Needless to say I changed my team, but then also went to HR and reported everything.
I guess any team that has a majority of a specific race might be an obstacle for growth. Because 1) the minority might be ignored and/or 2) the majority has a lot of conflicts/politics within themselves, both these things hinder progress. I feel it is best to have a mix of all cultures in a team, which is idea for growth.
Do you mean Indian?
There are billions of people from those two countries. Literally the top two most populated countries in the world. If someone here had a problem that doesn't mean you will. Go meet the team, stop judging before you have all the facts. You can openly ask them about team culture, what they do/done in the past to improve team bonding. If you still didn't feel excited about the team and project then reject them.
How were you able to get the insider look?
Hard before actually joining the team. In general, google would be safe place. They have a good hiring comittee
Prefer all nothing teams. I like having different genders and ethnicities in the workplace.

Wouldn't you join all White team? If yes, what's wrong with all indian/Chinese team as long as they speak English and are inclusive?
I'd be skeptical but at least I know they won't be speaking another language in front of me.
This 😂
