Nope. It’s funny how media likely to blast Uber for extravagant holiday parties so they have to make it so low key now. 2 employees per room in Vegas last time was no where near extravagant. My previous company which is a smaller 300+ people startup check employees into 5 star hotel suite per person and booked whole Michelin star restaurants for holiday party.

And was it using vc money to fund the party?
      Nov 28
    • Uber / EngDgoQ22
No, it’s already profitable and didnt take additional funding for more than 4 years. Spends around 3-5m for holiday party every year.

Its a game company, so revenue and profit is high but potential in terms of valuation isn’t that great. Not going to name it because very few people joined Uber from there.

That sounds fishy, even if you don't really care about holiday parties. Is there a good explanation?

    • OP
Nope they danced around it, mandatory day of volunteering in community and employee only holiday gathering afterwards at office. Calling in sick that day lol..

Faking being sick to avoid one day of helping out the community?
      You’re a douchebag.

Get your privileged a$$ out there. I am sure you can muster one day.

I volunteer and donate plenty on my own to causes I care about. I’m not going to do it under my companies umbrella at the places they’ve designated.

    • Logitech Sigurd
Unless you really can’t support the cause for whatever serious reason, you should do it.
Not just for the volunteering but just for your image within the team and with the company. Ducking out of events like this by pulling an obviously fake sick day is just bad for morale.
These things have a tendency to come back and bite you later.

Just some friendly advice from someone who has seen somebody else get completely shut out by doing stuff like that.

gtfo logitech with your holier than thou attitude bs. What are you fresh college grad?

    • Logitech Sigurd
Lol... I wish I was a fresh college grad. I was in great shape back then.

Hey do what you want. I just think reflects bad on people and I am not alone with this opinion. You gotta play the game.
I have heard and participated in plenty of judgment about lazy coworkers.

      But yeah. Suit yourself.

Box is not having holiday party this year? I’d say they are tightening their belt due to missed targets and wanting to look better to investors

What's best than holiday parties to hit on drunk fresh college hires?

  • Move JUvY31
Yes quit. I worked at a company that went from flying the entire tech team to ski to just party at hdq to just work and maybe do 1 day of hackathon. 1 year later rating agency downgraded the debt and they laid off a bunch of people

      Not sure.

Could also to avoid a major #metoo liability in light of recent events (Uber / Google) that can be more catastrophic to a smaller company like Box

Holiday parties are dumb. I loved them when I was in my 20s, now I think it’s a waste of money and time. I see my coworkers way too much (more than my real family) anyways

I would if they canceled free lunch though
    Nov 274
    • OP
Our free lunch is dangerous. Went home sick a few times due to undercooked meat. Food seems to be getting cheaper also mostly pork or chicken.

Those raw stuff are actually safer: fruit and salad

Holiday party with 50+ year old employees talking about how great it was back in the day and current millennials being lazy?
    Nov 271
    • OP
My last company was amusing watching the sales people get drunk AF and act stupid. Last year was a combination of that and millennials.
      Nov 27
  • OP
Should correct not all out cancelled but relegated to employee only gathering at office. SO is convinced something is amiss.
