Y’all act like this is a new thing.

Anyone who commits a felony is vulnerable to this

Faux outrage is the new hotness!

PagerDuty XLMeth OP Jun 16, 2018

We aren’t falling for this bs

Apple HandJobs Jun 16, 2018

Yeah even my liberal friends call BS on this one.

Apple Okidoki Jun 16, 2018

Coming to the border and applying for asylum is a lawful procedure and there is no committed crime.

PagerDuty XLMeth OP Jun 16, 2018

If you’re fleeing from a war zone. Mexico isn’t one. You don’t get to cross 2+ countries to the one that has your preferred benefits. That’s not how asylum works.

Apple Okidoki Jun 16, 2018

It depends on the merit of the case.

We, as a nation, are better than this. Let’s be real here, separating kids from parents while processing their return is not making anyone safer. This is simply a way to make immigrants suffer more and mess with their minds so that less people would try crossing in. It’s shameful to use kids as a bargaining chip. Now, regarding the fact that it’s the law and due process should be done, we should be thinking of the spirit of the law and not the letter. It’s similar to ani-sodomy laws. OP, imagine you are in Louisiana and your boyfriend is reaming your ass, wouldn’t you be just squealing in pleasure or there also you are thinking of the letter of the law of the land?

Facebook f95a0bd7d8 Jun 16, 2018

If I were getting stuck up the butt in Louisiana, I would be squealing at both the pleasure and the unconstitutionality of the former (keyword: former) anti-sodomy law as determined in Lawrence v. Texas. OK, I lied. I wouldn't be thinking of anti-sodomy laws at all since it's over 15 years in the past. In contrast, there is no judicial determination that separation of children and parents (in administrative, protective, and criminal contexts) is unconstitutional. The executive in the United States and almost all developed countries has near-unabridged powers in the realm of immigration, as it should. I'm as anti-Trump as they come but this line of argument is pathetic. "We, as a nation," have long tolerated the separation of families in criminal procedure. Felony violation of federal immigration law is no different.

Microsoft myword Jun 16, 2018

Be real... this is a tactic by the administration to inflict pain on immigrants by hurting their kids... don’t justify it with legality. Trump or Sessions or whoever green lighted this was not worried about crossing the ts and doting the i-s of doing this legally, their intention was to use little kids as bargaining chips... spineless... kick everyone out, hold on to guns, build a wall, jerk off kim Jong un, worship putin, I don’t care... but be kind to kids and parents, keep them together and throw them back to the other side of the border if you want, but keep them together

Apple tuolumne Jun 16, 2018

What if I told you that seeking asylum isn’t against the law. What if I told you preventing asylum seekers from entering the US at the border, as Trump is instructing, is against the law. What if I told you the polling on this is enormously negative. What we’re doing is morally wrong. Even the evangelicals are having a hard time with this one. You see. A wall doesn’t help. There’s still border crossing. These people will come no matter what.

Facebook f95a0bd7d8 Jun 16, 2018

I believe the topic of this thread is the family separation issue. I have no idea what the wall, evangelicals, or polling has to do with this. As for your first argument, you're correct that "preventing asylum seekers from entering the US" is against the law. But back to the issue of family separation... no one making an asylum request at a U.S. port of entry is being detained. Detaining those who cross the border at unrecognized points of entry is the prerogative of a nation's executive, and our friends in Western Europe might have us beat here.

Apple tuolumne Jun 16, 2018

Trump used the caravan as a justification for the wall. Yet they just go directly to border agents. Polling on separating children is enormously negative. Common sense. Evangelicals are Trumps largest base. They don’t like it either. Very much anti-Christian. All these issues converge.

American citizens lose their families everyday for everything from misdemeanors to CPS involvement. I’m not crying any tears for non citizens on this issue.

Microsoft littlebl Jun 16, 2018

Sure. But losing the kids is f'ed up

Twitch DaddysGirl Jun 16, 2018

Only when proven guilty

State Farm uHpT35 Jun 30, 2018

What if I told you that unlawful entry to the country is a misdemeanor, not a felony?
