Theft is theft

Hubspot pluot May 9, 2019

Theft is the unlawful taking of someone else's property. Taxation is the coercive, but by definition lawful, taking of someone else's property. Therefore taxation is not theft.

Property is theft.

Go to whatever shithole country you think is better. Property rights and rule of law are the fundamental reasons Western countries have such high standards of living.

No need to flip-out. I was just stating a historical fact.

You can buy a boat to live in the middle of the ocean. No one will tax you there

No tax, but Thailand will sentence you to death.

If your neighbor to the left doesn't have the right to take your money, and your neighbor to the right doesn't have the right to take your money... then how do they have the right to get together and vote to take your money?

Credit Karma EllisDee25 May 10, 2019

Well they can’t tax just you specifically. But in libertarianland if the neighbor to the right of you didn’t pay their fire service insurance bill, the whole neighborhood is going to burn down. At least that’s what happened prior to municipal fire departments.

LinkedIn rsu cliff May 13, 2019

They *can* tax you specifically. It's trivially easy to write rules that target a single person. For example, the "Amazon tax", the "Google tax"... politicians don't even pretend to avoid singling out companies any more. They can do the same with people. Your hypothetical is incorrect. If I paid for fire insurance, that company will do everything in its power to avoid losses, which likely includes both prevention, and also putting out fires on nearby uninsured houses to avoid the spread. That is not what happened before. Even today, many fire departments are private.
