Managers: what’s your management style?
Try to be everyone's friend. Performance management by way of vague hints. Transfer teams before my lack of vision catches up with me.
A combination of Servant Leadership and Situational leadership.
Haha this guy with the MBA
kick down kiss up
Be approachable. Anticipate that you can and won't realistically be everyone's friend, understand you will do well with some and worse with others. Always use logical arguments and never resort to sentiment or selfishness in trying to support yourself with a sinking argument. You'll be surprised at how often people dig themselves into holes they refuse to get out of due to purely selfish reasons. You can and will make wrong decisions, the mark of a good leader isn't an absolute function of how few mistakes he or she makes, rather than how fast he can spot them and overcome them. Recognize that there will be weak links in your team that may slow things down. Inspire them to learn. Be understanding. Anticipate failure from new team members, try to plan for it and direct it into being a learning experience. Earn trust, don't demand it. Don't micro-manage, delegate. Always give credit where is due, don't take credit for other people's work. Don't be an ass.
Inspire, empower, coach.
sit at my desk and stare at my calendar all day and use 1:1 time to pump subordinates for information on who's leaving and who said what... oh wait, that's my boss's style
Funny
Depends on circumstances .... sometimes lead by example and also give autonomy and responsibility to lead projects ...
