How do you deal with being laid off when you’ve done above and beyond at your position, however newish to the company, someone had to go, and you find your head on the chopping block? Does it go in your cover letter? During an interview? Basically, how do you transition to your next company without this hurting you? or is this even possible? Note: A part of a 2nd round of cuts since Summer.
You keep applying and networking, then bring it up early on in the phone screen.
It’s not a problem, that’s plenty of time unless you have a bunch of short stints.
Previous company was 4 years (left very amicably). Took a year to intern to strengthen skill set. Moved to Austin. Then this past experience.
Laid off is different from being fired. Laid off should not be a bad sign on your profile as it is out of your hands
I'm sure TBC Corp meant "Laid off should NOT be a bad sign".
My bad.. just corrected it. :)
Go get paid +30-100% more elsewhere? If you’re a crusher you’ll have good opportunities
Laid off isn’t a bad sign-people get paid off all the time
Then you weren’t a rock star.
Sometimes it’s not what you do but who you know. Sucks when you are the new guy who is remote.
Rock stars never get the lay-off notice. They show up to work one day to find the building empty and doors locked. They’re the last to go.
No one cares or will ask lol
Can someone tell how to answer "Why are you looking for a change?" which the recruiter asks.
I’ve grown beyond the scope of my role..., the company I’m at is smaller so I’m looking to increase my skills in a more complex organization...just casually looking now, saw this role and am intrigued with xyz...
So when should one bring up that he/she was laid off.
Bring it up where appropriate in the conversation. I would save it for the phone screen or on-site.
I’m worried due to my lack of longevity at the company it may throw up red flags and disqualify me before getting to that point. Was only there 16 months.
16 months is plenty of time. Many ppl switch jobs at 12 months now, especially in Silicon Valley
