Zuck’s internal thoughts before Holocaust remarks

I’m doing an interview today with Kara Swisher on some sensitive topics. I want to keep it low key, non-scandalous, and clarify some of our company policies. Oh I know, why don’t I spontaneously offer up holocaust denial as an example of something we’re down with on the platform. People are definitely going to fixate on how cool I am with free-speech, that I a non-practicing Jew living free from anti-semitism am ok with holocaust denial. That’ll work well right?

LOL it somehow made sense in his head

Have you actually heard the podcast? Did you actually try to see the context where this was said. I agree it was poorly choosen example but it was given in the context of first amendment and that even though he personally hated it, he won't be taking down such content on the platform.

This is probably the reason why neither you nor Zuck should be giving interviews. Holocaust denial is related to real world violence. I understand freedom of speech issues, I’m a fucking attorney. The first amendment is a governmental right, we exercise many restrictions on speech ranging from takedowns of BitTorrent links and certain kinds of commerce. Speech is also not unlimited and when it is highly associated with hate crimes, several countries, including Germany, have banned holocaust denial.

For sure I should not be giving interviews but you didn't answer my question, did you hear the interview?

I believe he purposedly picked that example to amplify his point because of his ethnical background

Yes I agree, but it belies a real misunderstanding on his part. He’s not a Jew at risk from anti-semitism. He lives in California and has body guards, and is a freaking billionaire. There are plenty of places around the world where anti-semitism is rampant and holocaust denial is common. The fact he thinks the belief is the primary offensive part of holocaust denial and not the society that comes with it underscores how detached from everyday reality he is
