currently working for a fortune 500 company thinking of leaving for a start up. i work in sales. mainly Saas. any pointers or places to look for new opportunity ? all help greatly appreciated.
If you are specifically looking for startups check out AngelList
Betts recruiting did wonders finding me a gig. Moved from Oracle to a 60 person mid stage startup. I'd look for someone with "senior" in their job title and reach out on LI
@qmfu21 just curious, hows is the experience at the new start up compared to oracle? any hike in pay? work life balance? thx!
It's going to vary widely. I used to fuck around for a few hours a day at Oracle. Now I don't but I go home at 3 or 4 when my works done. Base is almost 50% but OTE has to potential to be higher. I like the people I work with and the actual work itself so much more now.
I am getting pinged on recruiters quite a bit right now. I assume it is Sales season so update your LinkedIn and good luck!
How's the search coming along ?
honestly i think its time a start working for my self.
I may be able to help. Would you be interested in talking sometime this week ?
Startups need somebody who is invested in building a company-not just doing your job-this often contradicts with traditional sales methodology but can be extremely rewarding for the right opportunity-were hiring at Woopra -happy to give pointers if you're still looking
thats really what i would like to look for
Tons of startups in PHX that could use asgrong enterprise sales rep. You'd def be sacrificeing salary, but because there just aren't that many great enterprise reps here you could ask for a nice chunk of the company.
Great insight here. I moved to Idaho and left a 500. Some days I think it was a career ender, others feel like the best thing I ever did.
Yelp
Depending on size, can be lonely af. Be prepared. As long as you know you're going into a startup and it's not a half-hearted attempt to describe the startup as a company moving out of 'high growth mode' it's quite fun. But, creativity is crucial in the BizDev'ing.
You'll make more cash at a startup but the job is harder. No existing relationships or inherent trust in your brand. Worth it if you can find the right spot
i understand but just ready for something new and possibly more exciting
Speaking as someone with startup experience, you'll probably make LESS money but get more equity and some great perks. Plus, if you're a top performer at a solid startup with a great leadership team they'll want to take you along to their next venture. If they don't, the VC firm will.
