amazon relocation package question

i recently recived an offer from Amazon and was offered a good relocation package in which amazon would take care of almost everything relocating me to seattle.
it however says that if my job terminates for any reason within first two years (even if amazon lays me off) i have to return the money that they spent on relocating me.
is it common.

I did ask the recruiter. She said that this is standard amazon doc and she could do nothing about it.

I guess they are expecting u to pay from your unemployment check :-) on a serious note, if they fire you they will give u severance package. If u do something unlawful then I guess you just pay up

And how much is the severance package worth? 3-6 months pay?

You don’t owe the whole amount .total cost is divided in 24 months, and depending on when you leave , remaining month balance is due

That’s not my question. My question is why do we have to give anything back to them if they fire you. You aren’t leaving voluntarily.

Leaving on your own is common, but them firing you within the first two years isn’t - unless you a complete screwup

Understood. But if they do won’t that totally suck. They fire you with a 20k bill. Do they do that.

Return the money...? Yes. BUT two years is not...one year is standard. Additionally the 'if they fire you' clause is total fucking bullshit.
