My wife is very depressed and cries almost everyday regretting quitting her job 3 years ago when she was pregnant. Now it is not easy for her to get a job again. Not looking for referrals here but tips on maintaining the morale. I try to stay positive and provide help but it starts to make me feel depressed too.
You have a little angel growing up in your family ❤️ that’s incredible. Also if you’re looking for more serious suggestion, you can tell us her working/education background yoe etc
She is looking for UX designer role now but considering changing to Frontend Development and go to a boot camp. For UX role, she had experience in the design part but she is weak in the user research and written communication skills.
She could do a FEWD boot camp or brush up on coding skills via self-teaching. Would suggest she look for UX Engineer or UX Developer roles
industry? job role?
I am familiar with these challenges. I would recommend encouraging her to build a portfolio related to her skill set and major. For example if she is in computer science and skilled in python and data science, you can plan together to put a website for her and she can start doing projects and adding them to her website. Help her build her linkedin profile and get connected to other professionals in her field. She can also attend meet up meetings for job related events. I promise she will start to mentally feel better and will start making progress in 6 month. In a year she will have a good job.
Thanks so much for the tip! That is exactly something we are trying to do. 6 months to 1 years is too long for her expectation and she starts to feel hopeless getting constant rejections. But she is adjusting her expectations now to be more patient and learn for a longer time. She still does not want to go to meetups or talk about her struggles with others.
She will feel better by making progress in her projects. She does not need to talk about her struggles; she can talk about her passion. Encourage her to think about her dream job and what she wants to do at her heart. Then she can go out and talk to people about it; that brings her the dream job!.
Pretty common I think. Listen man aint nothin like being able to say your wife is home raising the kids, that’s the shit imo. You could flip it and let her work but you want that? What’s she crying about? Maybe she has post partem depression i dunno but most arr fuckin elated to stay home and raise your kids while you bring home the bacon. You should have a one on one with her and find out what is going on or i think your life will not improve. Just my 2 cents.
She really wants to go back to work. She enjoys working and would like to have that sense of accomplishment.
Jesus Christ wtf would you like your professional life to end?
Best thing is apply to Infosys or CTS or TCS here where you will have offshore support to start with and later on once you get momentum switch to full time.
Outright rejection from CV send or post (at least 1) interview? Where’s the barrier she can’t seem to cross?
Just CV :)
Sounds like you might need to rework the CV.... I’ve been involved in quite a bit of hiring and if the CV isn’t well laid out, hitting the right points (or even nice enough to look at) I’m not going to spend more than the 2-5’ I have to dig for the possibility that there’s a winner in there. If you want, I’m happy to have a look and tell you what impression it makes and suggest improvements? Not sure how to make that anonymous... or I can send you some examples of successful CVs from my org in her field (it’s diff for all).
There are programs like returnships she can look into. Pathforward.org?
Great site, I am checking now!
Ask her to check out the Mom project. They have some remote part time roles.
I know some companies have dedicated programs for women who took a break. Reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn & ask about such programs.
