recruiter called me last week and told me that they woukd like to place an offer. He asked me to share my salary expectation. I responded by asking him what level am I being offered. she said she will get back to me. Its been a week and I havent heard anything except “i dont have details yet”. What additional info does he need to know the level ? also how can apple decide to make an offer without deciding on the level? current tc: 280
If they want to make an offer you are in (almost). They wanna see your comp expectations and fit you at a level lower than the one specified for role l as long as lower level covers your comp.

Every job opening has a target level attached. Sometimes, it is a range. Probably, they are still gathering feedback and evaluating your performance. HR at Apple is also very slow, they can't give your an offer without deciding the level first.
What confuses me is: how does he know that they are interested in making me an offer if he doesn’t have all the feedback. And if he has all the feedback, why is the level not known? Also is it possible that they blackout and don’t make any offer ?
It is common for the level to not be disclosed until you start work. Negotiate for compensation, not level. They probable have a level and range in mind, but it is in your negotiating favor if they don’t.
