It’s in our nature to get as much as possible, it’s a survival instinct. You want as much as possible in order to survive.

If we on a simulation, who is paying the electric bill for 1 billion years?

Lololol fair point, also if we are in a simulation likely the place our simulation runs is a simulation and so on, whose paying those bills? They must have a lot of tc

Didn't Morpheus say our body can generate a lot of energy, and that the machines are harvesting that energy and also keeping the Matrix alive?

Most people associate their self worth with accumulating things, and because they do that they want to compete in accumulating more things than their friends or neighbors. After a point money has diminishing marginal value. Most people now realize that and hence you see FIRE movements picking up. Personally I only want to work to reach a certain amount of money in my bank account, post that my plan is to retire in the mountains or suburbs and build a house that is completely off grid and feeds off renewable energy.

It’s more than that, it’s engrained in our dna to hoard things

If we are, this is the flappy bird of simulations, at least give us the restart button 🥴

Even if we are not living in a simulation everything is a game. No one is going to remember me or you after 500 years. No one is going to remember anyone after a million years. And million years is a small period of time in planetary scales. So, simulation or not leading a happy life is better for you than chasing anything.

Jumping on two offer my two cents. Mathematically, it doesn't matter. Yes it's disappointing I know, but what is important is that we are all here, we help each other and believe in Almighty God to lead us not to temptation and deliver is from evil.
