More and more often Im getting asked to prep how to talk about tech with engineers on PM interviews. basically “how technical are you” type questions. We engage in some systems deaign and architecture, designing of mS here but I would like a better way to approach this line of questioning. Usually its we start with flow charts and use cases ans then discuss and hand off to the architects. any good materials or books to better prepare? In summary, how do you typically answer the “How tech are you?” question
+1 on tdfs response. engineering is an execution arm, most definitely not a stakeholder
One of the key essentials around Product Management is to focus just on the WHY and not the HOW. The reason why companies focus on technical aspects is - not for you to come up with the solution - but rather be well informed around the proposed solution so that you are in alignment.
Thank you. So what’s a good way to answer what I thought about why certain systems or solutions were chosen. Many times this comes up in a “tell me a time when you had a conflict with engineering” “ or “how do you inform your engineering stakeholders”
There is mostly no such thing as “engineering stakeholders”. Engineering is part of your team. Conflicts need not be around the “HOW”.
